Looks like Anastasia is pretty well booked up for the time frame we are interested in. I found Little Talbot Island campground, which is just on the north side of Jacksonville. It's not booked up at all, I suspect because most of the sites are small. That's ok with us, we only have a 22 foot trailer. It also looks a little more remote, which is also fine with us.
Has anyone ever stayed there? Pros/cons?

A very nice park, but will be surprisingly colder than Anastasia. Yes, it is remote, but if that is not a problem, then it should do OK. There are a few sites prone to flooding overlooking the salt marsh. Ask the ranger which ones upon check in.

Don't know your dates. Try this state park about 15 miles of Anastasiahttp://www.floridastateparks.org/faverdykes/default.cfm

I have stayed there, if you are looking for a similar experience to Anastasia you will not find it there. The state park system just refuses to spend any money there to make it what it should be. I would suggest you try Ft Clinch State park, much nicer IMO

I was just there last week in site 35. Loved it. Didn't see most of the campground - only the part to my site and back. There were 5th wheels in there, in the front, and we had no problems with our 22FB (26'). Watch the height though - there are some low hanging branches. The sites we saw were surrounded by trees and bushes - pretty decent privacy. The ones where we were, near the boat launch, are kind of open but I loved the view across the marsh. It was very quiet back there. Definitely on my list to do again, if I can get sites 35 or 34. The water hookup is not necessarily on the same side of the site as the electric - you may need a 30' hose. We drank it - no ill effects. On the map it shows a loop where the boat launch and sites are but it is really just a large open area. Only canoes and kayaks launched while we were there and I don't think anything larger than a jon boat would. We did not use the bathrooms, can't review them. If you prefer KOAs, you probably won't like it. If you like remote and rustic, you probably will.

Little Talbot is remote and rustic, way off the beaten path.
Many if not most sites are fairly small and unlevel, which isn't a big deal if you're prepared. Bring some boards.
There are a few longer level sites by the boat ramp.
Also recommended is Crooked River SP near St. Mary's GA, with roomy, level sites. See our blog for some pics.

I don't know what your budget is, but there is North Beach Campground just north of Anastasia and it has beach access as well as river access. I have heard really good things about it. What are you dates you are looking at?
