Quartzsite has had its high water mark just as RVing had its high water mark several years ago. High gas prices and a lousy economy has probably cut the number of Rvers in Q in half from say 1999.

From an economic perspective with declining real estate all over the US but especially in Arizona and the Coachella Valley you would absolutely be nuts not to look into purchasing a second home instead of a costly RV.

It is called Democracy and free enterprise. They both will take what the market will bare. Would we want it any other way?

It used to take us about 2 weeks to spend a month in Q. We've got it down to three days to spend a month there now.

We just came through there on Dec 28th. NO traffic. Lots of empty spots in the RV parks. I think my wife hit the nail on the head. She doesn't think the younger generation is going to be that interested in RVing as we see it and it is starting to show. High fuel prices and RV manufacturing companys dropping like flies doesn't help either.

I know of many vendors who are doing double the sales of last year. When I vended in Quartzsite 9 years ago, I heard the same doom and gloom. Vendors said, I'm not ever coming back, and then I'd see them again and again, but still complaining.

Well, the town has not raised the vendor rates since 2004(or 2005). The rates are still $50/season.

There are many more RV dealers in town than used to be. Camping World is now here with lots of rigs for sale, along with a dozen or so dealers.

Tents are going up everywhere, folks are rolling in with their rigs and the weather is totally awesome! Plan on attending the Hi Jolly Daze Parade this Sat. Jan. 7th at noon, followed by music, food and fun at the park!

Quartzsite Rocks!

People would love to spend there money there. But they also expect to get there monies worth. Three dollars for a loaf of bread? Really. Restaurants have a special menu for the month of January, where every thing is increased a buck. Park fees go from two hundred a mo. to four hundred a mo. or if you want the month Jan., you have to pay for Feb, and March, up front no refunds .Sooner or later these business practices will bite you in the ---.

And I read on here all the time about how you should stock up on food at the nearest Walmart before coming to Q. Yeah, that really helps the local economy. Cheapness will destroy a lot of good things.

But when merchants try to gouge their guests the visitors will react. Based on all that I have read and seen on Q, that community deserves what it gets. The city fathers are their own worst enemy. They are biting the hand that feeds them. The only reason that town exists is because of the vendors and winter visitors and they are trying to chase them away.

Doesn't the gov. close many parks when it is cold to save money and you still get the bill.
