The parts are often common with the F550 chassis. IIRC the front brakes are the same.

Which F53 chassis? There is a big difference between the 460/F53 (up to 1997) and the V10/F53 (1999 and later) chassis.

Take the old pads/shoes to NAPA and have them match them up. A good store can do it and they are usually priced competitively.

Since you'll have the wheels off replace the rubber flex hoses between the hard lines and the caliber. Also replace the brake fluid.

Hardest part is getting the wheel bolts off due to the high torque so have a log breaker bar ready. Same for getting them back on and torqued properly.

Have the rotors turned, or even replace them, since RV's require a lot of
braking force. Other than that, assuming you can get the RV front off of the ground, it is pretty easy.

Keep everything clean while doing the assembly.

My advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

Also make sure you clean and lube the caliper slides. Just like doing a car only bigger and heavier. When was the last time the wheels were packed? would be a good time to do that also.

With my 2001 unit, I've got just about 50,000 showing...and the (original) pads still show lots of "use" to go. Probably the smoothest braking I've ever experienced in any motor vehicle....I just might stick with the Ford pads...when (if) it comes time to replace them.
I would definately grease the front bearings...and check the hoses (as mentioned above) ANY doubt....get new.

I changed the brakes all around on our 01 F53 chassis last year. With 75,000 miles on the odometer the front brakes still had about 30% left. The rear brake pads were paper thin. Unlike a car where the front brakes do about 70% of the stopping the F53 chassis is 50 - 50. Since there's almost double the weight on the rear axle the rear pads wear the most.

I went to the local NAPA store and they had no trouble finding the proper pads in the book. As I recall they were about $80.00 per axle. If memory serves correctly both the front and rear pads were the same. On our coach there was no need to replace any hoses or turn the rotors. The only additional items necessary were a few qarts of DOT 4 brake fluid to flush the system and some lube for the caliper slides.

The wheel torque on our 19.5" wheels is 165 ft lbs. The original owners manual stated the wheel torque at 150 ft lbs. About a year later we got a letter from Ford increasing the torque to 165 ft lbs.

If the wheel bearings need to be repacked seals add about another $30.00 to the cost.
