I want to remove the 50 amp cord that came with my MH. It is connected in a junction box in one of the cargo bays. I just need a 20 amp cord to plug in while at home. I very rarely, if ever, use the 50 amp.
I was just going to put a 50 amp receptacle in the box and connect the 20 amp cord in the box with it. That would create a 50 amp cord with 2 male ends and a 110 cord with a hot end if the 50 was used. Any suggestions for a fix other than dragging around the 75 lb. 50 amp cord and adapting it down ? Thanx

Two observations:
1. If you remove the 50 amp cord, you will have to put it back if you sell/trade the MH or you will severely reduce the value.
2. Since you said that you rarely, if ever, use it, I understood that to mean that perhaps sometimes you may need to hook up. Don't do something that you might not like down the road.
I have a 50 to 30 reducer and put a 20 amp reducer on that. I use it for shore power when at home. Sometimes on the road I only have a 30 amp connection, so I use the reducer. When I have a 50 amp connection, I use that because I can use air and microwave, etc at the same time.
I really think there are too many possibilities for use to remove that 50 amp. Besides, which side of the 50 amp connection in your MH will you tie the 20 amp into????

I would buy the appropriate pigtail rather than replace the cord. Not that expensive and certainly easier than replacing the cord.

Please do not make a cord with two male ends, that is suicide and illegal. Just use a 20 amp male to 50 amp female adapter and then just plug the adapter into the 20 amp outlet and then plug your 50 amp cord into the adapter when you need power at home.
As many times as you will need it, it will not be that heavy to use the 50 amp cord. Just my opinion

Don't make a double male cord ever on anything for any purpose.
You can replace the J-box with a 50 amp transfer switch to safely use the cord of your choice. Or use a 50 amp inlet connector where you can attach a 50 amp, 30 amp, or 20 amp cord as needed.

Please don't make a double-male cord...bad juju!
I'd get a nice 12-gauge cord and a 20A-to-50A converter. Leave the monster coiled up in the camper with its plug near the hatch. Then all you have to do is pop the adapter and extension cord on and you are good to go.
Play safe...the life you save might be your own (or mine!)

I'm with the no double male cord as well.
We use a Camco connector so the 50 amp cord can be stored anywhere.
then we just plug in an adapter to the camco fitting on the side of the camper and run a good heavy duty 15/20 amp extension cord.

I would cut the cord near the junction box buy one male such as this twist lock connector and two females. Mount the male on the pig tale out of the RV and one female on your 50 amp cord and another female to your 20 amp cord. then you have options.
