Great choice if you don't mind the cost, which to us is high. We usually stay in the non-hookup campground (around $10 with senior pass)which is just a short walk away from the hook-up campground.

If you want a campground that allows you to visit both Yellowstone and the Tetons then Coulter Bay is your best bet. We spent 5 nights at Gros Ventre (about 12 miles from Jackson Hole) and 2 nights at the Coulter Bay campground. I prefer Gros Ventre because of the openness and wildlife. We also enjoyed the convenience of having Jackson Hole nearby.
I wasn't impressed by the private campgrounds in Jackson Hole. While they did have FHU's they seemed crowded. Our Honda generator made the non-FHU camping worthwhile.

If you can live without hookups, we really liked Atherton Creek campground in the Gros Ventre National Forest, east of the Tetons -- it sounds far away but it is actually well-located. Very pretty, quiet, and rural. But I would not use it as a base for visiting both the Tetons and Yellowstone -- if you want to do that, you will need something further north.

We stayed at Flag Ranch between Yellowstone & the Grand Tetons, great location for exploring both. Adequate full hookup sites & heavily wooded.

docj wrote: We spent 2 weeks at Colter Bay this August. It is great since you are actually in Grand Teton NP. We stayed in the full hookup portion of the park, but there is a more primitive side as well. It is not cheap, but we felt it was really worth it. Colter Bay is about an hour south of Old Faithful and we used it as a base for exploring Yellowstone also. Sure, there are CGs closer to Yellowstone, but we enjoyed Colter Bay so much we decided we didn't mind the drive. Colter Bay is about 45 minutes from Jackson and we went rafting using one of the many companies based there.
