If I buy a 5er in Canada from a dealer - new- 2011 USA made - and take it back to South Dakota(example) to register (I´m an "alien" as they call us on the entry permits) whats the costs.Pay the Can VAT and get it back at the boarder because I´m exporting.? Then pay an import cost?
Rv is $ 30,000 can(2011) TV is $ 35,000 can (2007) example cost

Can I drive on temporary plates back to the US?

Better to pay the tax and stay Canada registered ?

As a whole package RV do I stay Canada registered or forget the trouble and buy south of the 49th.

I have no US or Canada address so can register where I´m allowed (lower cost- convenience etc)

I purchased an Escape travel trailer from the factory in Chilliwack, BC last April. I pre registered it in NY(and paid the sales tax), took the plates with me, and was given paperwork that was prepared by the factory. I don't have my copies of the documents, but I suspect the dealer will know what they are & have them ready for you.

At the border there was no VAT or import charges - they checked that the VIN# matched the paperwork & sent me on my way.

In the US, dealers are required to have the buyer pay taxes etc, based on their residency shown of their Driver's license. So if I have a have a SD license and buy in NV, I don't pay taxes here, If I have a NV license and buy here, I pay the tax and the license fees here.

Some states have recently changed their laws ( NV being one of them ) that states that if you have a in-state license with an out of state plate, they will take the plate and fine you for not paying to have the proper plates. CO did that about 14 years ago. The minimum fine is now $1000 in NV. When there is doubt, the question that they ask is, "Where do you or did you vote last!"

I can't imagine getting anything cheaper up here in Canada in R.Vs.You cannot register a unit in Saskatchewan which means a license if you don't have a Saskatchewan drivers license.in order to license a unit in Saskatchewan you have to prove you paid Sask. sales tax.Maybe you can get a temp. permit to leave the Province.

I'd be checking the prices of comparable units on the US side of the border. It's a rare event that stuff like RVs and trucks are cheaper in Canada.
And that's before the tax/duty/fees loom up at you.

I've checked rv's for pricing on both sides of the border many times and I've never found anything cheaper in Canada. Actually when we bought our current MH new, the price at my dealer in Canada was the US sticker price (US dollars); that's where we started. Now with the exchange rate flip/flopping all the time, it's a tough call.

If I was going to keep an rv in the US then I'd buy and insure it in the US.

If in fact you have NON resident status on either side of the border, I'd be more worried getting over the border rather than purchasing RV's. Slippery slope you ride.

Well here is someone who will register your RV in South Dakota for a $25 fee plus the SD charges. The sales taxes seem to be 3% which have to be a LOT less than Canadian VAT. Plus the vehicle registration fee which is also probably low:

South Dakota reg

I do not know anything about those people tho.

The stated driver license requirement seems a little strange to me. How does a rental company register a fleet of rental trailers?

The following web address will get you the information on what happens relative to a trailer being exported to the US. Will likely have a condition that the trailer not be licensed in Canada.
