Security from what while camping?
When in storage, I use insurance for security.

If I were worried that much about 'security' that I had to monitor a camera while camping, I'd probably stop camping.

Yes, at some property an hour away - works good.
A cheap way to go also.

I have a camera with an infra-red sensor (detects heat) rather than one that has a motion sensor (detects movement).

The motion sensor type will get activated by the wind (grass moving) and will be continually taking unwanted pictures.

I have only a 2 GB memory card in mine and it will hold about 2200 pictures at its best resolution.

Check out Cabelas.

That's an interesting idea for an unattended site or while in storage, but at night when you most need it, I would think the flash would alert the thieves to steal the camera along with everything else.

I know all about having insurance, but insurance does nothing for identifying the person or persons that stole from you or damaged your property or RV in the storage lot. I have 3 cameras that monitor the house when we are gone. At least if I come home to something damaged or missing I might have a very good picture of who did it. So far all I have got a pictures off is deer, skunks, raccoon etc: up around the house. We also have super neighbors that watch out for us when we are away.

Yeah, but they took the camera when they took the RV

Only kidding, but I guess that could happen too, right?

As far as the "flash" that was mentioned earlier, the I/R cameras don't need the light. We've got a video set up for the Grandson, in his room, when he's sleeping, and you can see him clear a day, when it's pitch black in his room. Very impressive systems!

We park the RV in our backyard, behind a 8' fence, so not too worried about it there....and hadn't thought about it for when out camping.....

Merry Christmas

Dead bolt locks, Sound and motion detectors,Security camera, I/R lensing, Remote data transfer, Heat seeking missles... opppss got off the track there.... it's all just another sad sign of our times ehh?

And just as sadly, I do see the worth of having one. The good news is that I still have enough faith in folks that I don't see myself purchasing one.

The sad part is even if you have the picture and catch the people responsible they will never have the money to pay the damage. They might spend a few days in jail but most of them have been there before and apparently don't mind. A slap on the wrist and they are out again. As stated before, just get good insurance and don' worry about. If you do it will drive you crazy. If something happens, collect the insurance, replace it and move on. As long as no one is injured or killed everything else is replaceable, maybe with something better. Merry Christmas and happy traveling/camping.

If I thought I needed something like that then I would just find a better storage facility.

Well, I was just thinking. Got a trail cam for Christmas. I'll use it around home to maybe tape some of the neighborhood coyotes having their sing along. But also, we camp at a coa campground that has had occasional pilferage of adult beverage from unattended coolers. Absent locking down for a few hours, I though this might be a way to discourage otherwise law abiding youth, if you get my meaning. I certainly don't believe a camera to be a replacement for heavy caliber weapons (joking-only joking).
