Caution to anyone that lives in Alabama, or any other state that uses the same system as Alabama for getting a title. I brought a used 2006 Great West class B RV from a private owner. When I tried to title the RV in Alabama the state titled the RV as a 2005, not a 2006 the state of Alabama's computer system for a title reads the 10th number in the vin. for a year model. This unit was delivered to Great West in Nov. 2005 as an unfinished vehicle, and was not completed or sold until Jan. 2006 therefore it was a 2006 model. I spend 3 months, and many documents from Great West, the original owner, copies of the first Fla. title to get this title problem fixed. So just be careful, and check the vin. number with your state before you buy.

This is only a small speed bump in getting it titled correctly. You need the certificate of origin from the manufacturer that shows the correct year on their title. I just finished the same mess here in FL. Luckily, my manufacturer is still in business. Search for certificate of origin for more posts about this subject.

It is a common practice for up-fitters (RV Manufacturers) yo use chassis that are a model year old. As stated already this does not mean that the rig is a model year older than you thought.

It would certainly help if there was standardization in this across states. When I registered my 2005 GWV, the state of ND registered it as a 2004 because that was the vin number of the van. It wasn't until this year when I registered my new LTV that the supervisor in the DMV corrected this when I questioned it.
It should be registered as of the year that it was converted (in most states) - but you need to know about it and insist. The problem is that not every clerk in the DMV has ever done an RV before. I suggest politely asking for the assistance of a supervisor.

The problem I had was the RV was first titled & tagged in the state of Fla. and Fla. kept the "Certificate of Origin" and "Great West" will not issue a second "Certificate of Origin"
