My comfort level would sit better with a 3/4 ton truck. I'm guessing a crew cab.

Yes definitely a crew cab if we go with a pickup just don't know pickup trucks and what to ask for.
Is a HD ram capable? Do they have the xtra rad for towing? Etc etc

2500 suburban would do the job.

If I were you...I would consider..2012 F150 Supercrew with max tow and heavy duty payload package taking the GVWR to 8200...Ecoboost engine. Payload 2300 and tows 11,100. Dodge 1500 payload is one of the smallest of half tons....great engine weak suspension and soft shocks for smoother ride, marginal tranny. Now..let the truck wars begin .... and then we will hear from the big boys not comfortable towing a pop-up with less than a 350/3500.

If I were that heavy, I'd be going for a 3/4 ton. My f150 does well with the current TT I have (about 6,500 lbs loaded) but it struggles a bit on steep grades. I'm trying to make it last another few years, then I'm going to a f250 PSD. Probably a new 5er after that

I wouldn't even consider a 1/2 ton. Good luck.

It depends on the ram 1500 and the trailer. If the trailers dry weight is 8000 lbs then there is no way I would tow with anything but a HD halfton such as the F150 with the max tow package.

However if the trailers gvwr is 8000 and the dry is 5000 to 6000 lbs then I wouldnt think twice about towing the trailer with the appropriate half ton ram. Remember, with a half ton you will typically run out of payload before you run out of max trailer weight tow rating.

I tow a 32 ft TT with a 97 F150. I had to do my research and compromise to get the payload I needed. I bought 2wd because it gave me an extra 3-400 lbs of payload. I also got the lowest gear available in 97. It's a 3:55 rear end. My max tow rating is 8000 lbs. my trailer is dry at 4970. Loaded I am around 6000-6500 lbs ready to camp. My tongue weight is around 1000 lbs. we load the trailer and have nothing but my family in the truck while towing. My max payload is 1780 lbs. with me and my wife and my kids I am using about 1500 lbs.

So I have less than 300 lbs payload capacity left over and that is with a 10 year old and a 7 year old. What does that mean? If I had adult size passengers I would be even closer. Am I ok with this? Yup. The truck drives good while towing.

If you are not comfy with weights that close I recommend you get a 3/4 ton. If mine was a 4x4 I would be over my gvwr.

Our family of 5 lasted 2 seasons of traveling in a crew cab pickup. Now we have a Suburban to give the kids their own space and to take along friends too. Keep that in mind as you consider how many people you want to travel with and for how long.

A half ton Ram Crew cab does not have much payload to handle 1000 pounds of tongue weight plus a family plus a bed full of stuff. Only the NHT package Silverado and F-150 Max towing package or HD payload would be acceptable to keep the truck under GVWR. Any 3/4 ton pickup will do it in comfort

What is the leg space in 2nd n 3rd row suburban? Every used one I've come across don't have the 3 row ?!? And if we put the 3rd roW it looks liker there very little cargo (we have a double stroller) we're already a family of 5 and lots of ext family so if we have stroller back there , there wouldn't be no room for groceries. How heavy are those benches?
