I currently have a KVH R5 and DirecTV. I want HD AND in-motion so Dish Network is my only option. I have questions: Currently, when we get to where we're going, we turn off the KVH since DirecTV SD is only on one satellite. If I don't turn it off, it still wants to fine tune itself so it constantly moves just a little and you can hear the whine in the RV. Now, Dish HD uses 3 satellites and I'm told I'll have to keep the KVH 'on' so it can move to other satellites depending upon the channel we choose to watch. When parked, will the KVH sit there and whine all day or does it go into a sleep mode if you stay on one channel long enough? And if it does go into sleep mode, does it automatically wake back up when it has to switch to another satellite? When in motion, does it switch satellites or does it just stay on one? Any info or reviews of Dish Network HD / in-motion would be helpful, thanks.

I had a KVH with DirecTV in my former DP. When traveling, the antenna is constantly moving to stay locked on to whatever satellite you're watching. When stationary, every so often I could hear the antenna moving a little bit. After being stationary for a while, I would turn off the antenna and I was able to still catch all the channels in all the satellites. Even when the receiver was off, the antenna would move every so often so I made a habit of turning it off before going to bed.

I currently have Dish using a Winegard Carryout, which is the same roof top antenna they sell minus the handle, and the antenna will move as needed, with the receiver on or off. Again, I turn it off at night so I don't hear the whine from the motor. I switched to Dish and the Carryout so I could receive the HD channels.

We have a KVH R5 and use DISH. It will continue to move even when the TV is off. We shut our KVH off at night and when we leave for several hours so it does not constantly run.
