We have a 2007, FWD Honda CRV; with 49000 miles. At 38000, on the odometer, I mounted a set of Kuhmo tires. At first, they were great, now the road noise is worse than the Bridgestones, I took off. The one dealer said they are cupping, which causes the noise. They could not warrante the tires, they said Sears will?????
I guess I will try there, or call up TIRE RACK, the original dealer was a TIRE RACK dealer, and I bought road hazard, etc. The tires have been rotated twice and 4 wheel aligned twice.
Anyone having tire cupping problems with their CRV, just curious.

Yup, did the same as you. Put on some kuhmos and was very unhappy with them for all the same reasons.
Finally Got rid of them and put on some Goodyear Allegras.
Best tire I have ever had on my CRV.
Seems like they are going to wear forever and much quieter than the Kuhmo.
But lets face it. Honda did not do a spectactular job on road noise insulation on our CRV's

I'm having uneven wear on the inside of my front tires (Continental Contact 4X4) on my 2010 4WD CRV. Yhey have become very noisy as well. Dealer says that when being towed the front alignment toes out causing the wear. He also told me the alignment was fine and it was slightly toed out. I've also read lots of negative reviews on the Continentals on Tirerack, so I don't know exactly whats to blame.

Mike Front Wheel/All Wheel drive vehicles have a normal toe out condition... When under normal driving power, torque will cause tires to toe in..
Towing will exacerbate the normal toe out setting thus wearing tires..

Gave up on the Kuhmos, what a bad tire. Just put Michelin Energy Saver
Low Rolling Resistance tires, the milage seems to be 3-4 mpg better. The ride is as good, and NO noise. I will see if they hold up.
Have a nice day, the retired Muffin Man.

7500 mile tire rotations....no matter if it is 7500 driven or 7500 towed...either way...keep CRV tires rotated
I don't care that the manual states 10k miles...you want your tires to last....7500 mile

I think our CRV was a 2002 - I do not know if there were significant changes with the chassis between that model and yours. We put quite a few miles on it - both towing and as a daily driver. I do not recall having any tire problems.
The post that caught my attention was the Honda tech's post about rotating tires - never knew or thought about that. I would think his advice might be good to follow for all toads whether FWD or RWD. It does not cost that much to have tires rotated.
We now have a Honda Fit. I will be getting another rotation.

The CRV is noisy, Bridgestones are amplifiers.
should the toe (or other alignment adjustments) be set to something OTHER THAN the Honda specifications for better tire wear while being towed that will NOT cause excessive wear / handling manners when being driven solo ?

Leave alignment specs as posted by Honda...you really don't care how the vehicle handles when it is being toed. You need to be concerned on how it drives and handles when you or the family is behind the wheel of the CRV.
Your whole vehicle (with exception of engine)is subject to wear when being toed....so remember...maintenance is required for ALL miles, not just actual driven miles

Bad shocks/struts can also cause tire to "cup". If the tires do not keep in contact with the road surface, tires will "cup". With only 49,000 miles on your vehicle, this may not be your problem. does the 49,000 miles include towed miles. Some people fail to consider towed miles; these miles will affect suspension parts.
