When visiting the New River Gorge, we stay at Rifrafter's CG in Fayetteville. Easy access to and from I-19, and all the great resturants and activities in the area. We've also enjoyed Canaan Valley SP and Blackwater Falls SP.

Cass Scenic Railroad x4, enjoyed the history of the area and the story behind it. The locomotive that pulled us was a Shay from Lima Ohio. While there make a day trip to Watoga State Park and see the Greenbrier River, very nice.

It would be easier to make suggestions if I knew what your interests are. Try the National Radio Astronamy Observatory in Greenbank. White water rafting is very popular. Harpers Ferry is great for history. There is an underground coal mine that give tours in Beckley. Trout fishing is second to none. A conoe trip through the "Trough" at Moorefield is unforgettable. There is the Gold Palace close to Moundsville and you could always spend a night in the Old Moundsville Prison. We also have some pretty good wineries.

Ride the Potomac Eagle sightseeing train out of Romney, WV. If around Christmas time...Festival of Lights in Ogelbay Park, Wheeling, WV. And don't forget the holy grail... Cabela's at the Highlands. East of Wheeling on I-70.

You also might be interested in going to the "Breaks Interstate Park", which is on the border of VA/KY/WV. It is known as the Grand Canyon of the South. It has a river that is beautiful and the area during the summer months is spectacular. That being said, the roads are curvy and have mountains, but can fully accommodate a large RV since tandem coal trucks use it daily!

Like some others have mentioned, it would be a shame if you didn't visit the New River Gorge area. A must see.

I am originally from WV. Cass is a great train ride spring or fall. US 19 is a nice drive from I64/I77. If you do take US 19 Summersville is nationally know as a speed trap. You can and will be stopped and ticketed for 1 mile over the limit. This applies to state residents as well as out of staters. Pipestem and Hawks Nest SP both have trams. The New River Bridge is the highest arch bridge in the world and please stop at the NPS site and view the bridge from below. Hope you enjoy camping at some of the SP in WV.

We've stopped several times at TAMARACK, and have enjoyed it. BTW, it's a good overnight stop as well, if you're enroute somewhere and don't need a CG.
