It's been five years and my bank of #4 6 volt trojans are starting to get a litle weak. The last trip out last weekend we dry camped and they just didn't seem to have the staying power. And everyone I've talked to tell me I'm on borrowed time.
So here is my question.
Are the AGM's better or should I stick with the tried and true. I have read where the agm's charge back up faster which would be better considering the cost of fuel. FYI I'm running a 2000 watt inverter with a 100 amp charging system. It is a magum unit and it does have the adjustable control system to run the agm batteries.
Please chime in.

I swapped mine out this year. I went with Trojans to replace the Interstates that came with my coach. I feel the AGMs are too pricey.

I have all AGMs and wouldn't go back, but they are pricy. They will accept a charge much faster and at a higher rate and are maintenance free. Lifeline and Deka are considered top of the line.

5 Years is not a lot of Time for Trojans, if they have been properly maintained and fully Charged.

We're running 10 Lifeline AGM's and love them. In 2007 we had to replace 4 Trojans on our 2005 Diesel Bounder. We replaced them with 4 Lifelines. When we traded the Bounder for the 2008 Allegro Bus, I took the Lifelines with it and used them as the 4 house batteries in the new bus. I used the 4 Exide wet cell batteries that came with the bus by splitting the DC bus so the electronics and satellite dishes operated off the wet cells and the rest of the house remained on the AGM's. This fall we moved the 4 AGM's to the forward bus, and bought 6 new Lifelines for the house. We went to 6 because we had just added a residential fridge. We typically travel 180 days a year and boondock about half that time. An added benefit of AGM's is that there is no out gassing, so no corrosion in the battery area, no water checking and no cable corrosion. In my opinion, AGM are the way to go.

I hear all the time how AGM's are better.. THEY ARE NOT unless you have a special needs (IE: can not mount "This side up")
I have 5 year old AGM paperweights here and Six year (and older) wet cells that are still useful. (Clearly the AGM's are dead, as in paperweights) I will not buy another AGM.
Even the battery makers web pages say AGMs do not have the long life of a properly maintained Flooded wet cell.
Suggestion: GC-2 Golf car batteries from Sam's Club.. Best "Bang for your buck"
By the way Trojan is a battery maker.. AGM is a type of battery, They can be purchased from Trojan as well as many other companies.

There are good AGMs and bad AGMs. There are several brands being sold in the US market comming from China that are inferior. Check out who the manufacturer is and prices. If they are $200-$300 cheaper than anyone else, look elswhere.
Made in China; Diamec, Koyosonic, Fujian, to name a few.

I would go to Walmart and get the 12v with a 18 month warranty for $90.00. When I spoke with Interstate they told me 12v wet cell was the best way to go not 6v.
