We bought the Water King USA and had it installed. It is not perfect but the water is very drinkable. If it is left at room temperature it is comparable to bottled water. If chilled it is better tasting than bottled water.
The water we have had here coming out of the tap is in no way drinkable. We are near the Colorado River on the Arizona side and the water company I believe does not filter the water from the river or maybe just does not soften it. But after installing the WaterKing USA. The water has become very drinkable and no longer leaves a white residue. I beleive to be calcium and magnesium.
The total cost was $367. And I would recomend it.

We use a $20 filter housing and $6 filters that takes nasty water and make it taste like.... nothing at all. Just good old drinking water. Each filter lasts 90-120 days and even at 90 days per filter, for $367 I can buy 61 filters, or 15 years worth.

Yeah well, filters will remove sticks leaves and such but I've been told that they will not remove chemicals or minerals and that is what people are up against traveling in the mountain west and the deserts of the southwest.

IMO - Go with RO!!.
Reverse Osmosis will take care of it *all* - and you *can* add other filters too. NO electricity required.
Go to the RV Water Filter Store - see the "Information About" topics on the left side of the page.
Xlnt source for Reverse Osmosis and/or Water Softeners - and of course, filters - - and/or simply information.
(No, I don't work for them!).
