As has been posted, that happens regularly...there is a civil discussion, then someone terrified of guns posts something INTENDED to be offensive. Someone responds, and the hoplophobe's plan works...the thread gets deleted.
How about when some gun toting yahoo posts something offensive like "I'd rather be judged by 12 then carried by 6"

I own and carry guns; and that kind of statement offends me. Just a good example of why others should think that gun owners are stupid, shoot first ask question later, jerks - and need to be controlled (or outright banned). And every gun thread, some jerk is posting that kind of cavalier statement. Offensive runs both ways Jarlaxle.

You can have all kinds of threads on these forums.
You can have guns too, but you have to talk about them in the NRA forums.

I am not impressed with "Internet warriors". They do the concealed carry people a big disservice. It makes me wonder if some of them are just trolls trying to make the actual firearm holders look bad.

One of the first things caught in CHL class, other than the basics of firearm handling: The piece is the last resort, and when it is drawn, it is going to be fired. Period. It is not for brandishing, nor threats. It comes out to go bang. The exception is if someone is a sworn peace officer who is trained in not just use, but retention.

I recently had a reply to a post removed from "Paddling. Net".
The post was titled "Fat mans Kayak", and the poster was looking for a kayak suitable for him since he was overweight.
I replied: "why not try and lose some weight, and then you will have a choice of lots of kayaks"
Someone evidently took offense and removed my reply.

your reply certainly was a big help. glad they removed it.

Oh, Oh, someone else took offense too.
I should have put the rest of the post from the Op where he said " over the past few years he gained a lot of weight"

If you are glad they removed it, I am glad your glad !

Might want to change your handle to " Mr Grumpy" rather than Bumpy!

Another reason threads get locked and-or deleted (I think) is the mods get tired of deleteing and editing threads. Topical or emotional subject, while not specifically banned, generate too many negative responses and get poofed.

The job of the moderators is to edit and delete if necessary, threads that stray from the forum guidelines. If they are tired of doing it, well......

Sam

I'd be pretty sure, given the terrific rate of pay they receive for their moderating jobs ;-) that it's easier to poof something than stay up all night making sure this forum continues to be a family-friendly place to visit??

The problem is that a simple question about gun ownership quickly becomes a soapbox for some. Instead of a simple answer to a simple question, they insist in spouting their beliefs about freedoms, government restraints, individual rights, the only right way to own/carry, etc. Keep all that out and maybe the thread will stay.
I am all for the moderators rights to clear any thread that violates the rules.

Exactly!! I've been on this forum a long time and I'm still amazed at how quickly a simple, adult discussion can turn into one posters personal platform. The rules are the rules...plain and simple. There is no right to free speech on a privately owned forum. If you want free speech, start you own internet forum and set your own rules.

As for the moderators, I wouldn't want their jobs. The amount of editing and deleting inappropriate posts must gets to a point where they say to heck with it and close/remove it. I for one think they earn every penny of the inflated salary

I've been on forums before that are NOT well moderated. Trust me, you don't wanna go there! In spite of the fact that they occasionally frustrate me, I thank the moderators for what they do...right or wrong.
