"This means that the efficiency of E15, measured in miles per gallon, can never exceed 95% of the efficiency of regular gasoline. In actuality, it tends to be far lower. For most cars, ethanol mixes are detrimental to fuel efficiency. For example, the EPA tested 2006 flex-fuel models and determined that with E85 there was an average MPG reduction of 26%. Vehicles advertised as 30 MPG for regular gasoline typically get 22.2 MPG with E85 at the pump."

I get less mileage from any Ethanol blend. I also find my engine does not start in hot weather as easily. Ethanol made from cereal grains was and is the worst idea any one has ever come up with. It has raised prices on food by 15%, cattle feed, any thing that uses corn.

It's a bad idea because we have to stop at a gas station as often or more often since the ethanol doesn't contribute to mileage. It just costs us money. IMHO.

Right now it takes 4 units of energy (fossil fuel) to make 1 unit of energy from ethanol. So how can that ever be sensible? Just burn that fossil fuel directly and save.

I have not seen a pump in a long time that didnot say that up to 10% ethanol was mixed in with gas.
Is it still possible to find 100% gas?

I saw something that claimed that most gas in Florida was the pure stuff, since the infrastructure to mix ethanol in was not in place. I don't know if that is still true, or ever was for that matter.

I'm convinced the reason they started this ethanol craze had a lot to do with the Iowa and other states, corn growers, and the fact that senators had invested in ethanol plants. Bill O'Reilly said from the gitgo, that it takes 1 1/4 gal. of fossil fuel to produce one gallon of ethanol. Plus you don't get as good of mileage, although I tried using 100% gasoline in my car and couldn't tell much difference in the mileage from the ethanol blend. I used ethanol blend exclusively in an 03 Corolla, which we bought new, and my granddaughter is now driving it and we have not had any mechanical problems with the car. It has over 100,000 miles on it now.

We have several stations around town that advertise "No Ethanol". Those tend to be the busiest stations. Also ethanol absorbs water more than pure gasoline and really wreaks havoc with engines that aren't used often. I've had my lawn mower and ATV both develop problems like rust in the tank or carb issues, and boat owners really stay away as they are already in a high humidity environment.

Even my Chevy HHR knows that ethanol is a bad idea. It is one of the Flex Fuel cars that can handle E85. Like most newer cars it has computers that tell mileage, expected range, and so on. When I fill up with gas with 10% ethanol it indicates I can go over 420 on the tank. When I filled up with E85 for a couple of tanks the same computer indicates it can only go 330 miles on the tank. If I use E85, I would of course have to stop more often.
It is not a good plan to require ethanol in gasoline. It is even a worse idea to use food to create ethanol.
