I also used the Cooper 8.75x16.5 for my 1974 and have been very happy with them. I bought them about a year and half ago and at the time they were only $145 each. They are also a radial so smoothed out the ride some as well.

I don't think anyones dying statement ever contained the words "I wish I had spent more time in the office", so lets go somewhere!

Might consider Firestone Transforce HT 8.75x16.5. Cost a little more than Cooper.

I installed the firestone transforce 16 1/2 tires on my 1984 Chevy cutaway 24ft Coachmen. Spring of 2010, I really like the ride and the handling I put on the 10 ply tires and can't beleive how quite they are on the pavement. At the same time I had new extension valve stems in stalled on the rear inside duals then took it in for a complete allignment. steers beautifully and hardly notice the side wind. Found out from dealer that if you order in January or February for delivery in March or April you will get the current years stock, I ordered mine in January 2010 and they arived latter part of March date stamped Feb. 2010.

About a year and a half ago, we had a 79 Dodge Class C that had 16.5 inch rims. I bought 6 new 225/75-16's and six used rims cheaper than 6 new 8.75 x 16.5's would have cost. It's not hard to find used rims for 20-25 dollars apiece if you shop around.
At this price I would like to find 7 16 inch rims......Cool

It seems Chevy and Dodge are easier to change from 16.5 to 16 than Ford is until you reach the mid-1980s.

I believe the 1983 chassis used "coined" wheels and then 1984 used the hub-centered style you see on later models. The changeover coiuld have been 1985, but I'm sure it was one of those two years.

And remember in all these discussions, the Chassis Year is what counts, not the Coach Builder's Model Year!
