We have about 20 tanks behind us now using a cetane booster on our little diesels. There has been a noticeable difference in power and although I have only checked a few tank fulls for mileage, it has also been improved but this is tougher to tell as mileage has a lot to do with where and how you drive. Mercedes suggests a cetane booster for lower quality North American diesel fuels. I think at this point I would use it more from the maintenance point for the egr than for the mileage or performance.
Tried it in the big Cummins on the way down south and hard to tell.

Well, Yes, I can, because once the hay is in, the truck rarely gets used, and when I do need it, I can wait for a warm day (relatively speaking, as in above minus 18, which is the cloud point of the fuel that is available).
Also:
"Sulfur is not a lubricant in of itself, but it can combine with the nickel content in many metal alloys to form a low melting point eutectic alloy that can increase lubricity. The process used to reduce the sulfur also reduces the fuel's lubricating properties. Lubricity is a measure of the fuel's ability to lubricate and protect the various parts of the engine's fuel injection system from wear. The processing required to reduce sulfur to 15 ppm also removes naturally-occurring lubricity agents in diesel fuel. To manage this change ASTM International (formerly the American Society for Testing and Materials) adopted the lubricity specification defined in ASTM D975[12] for all diesel fuels and this standard went into effect January 1, 2005.[13] The D975 standard defines two USLD standards, Grade No. 2-D S15 (regular ULSD) and Grade No. 1-D S15 (a higher volatility fuel with a lower gelling temperature than regular ULSD).
The refining process that removes the sulfur also reduces the aromatic content and density of the fuel, resulting in a minor decrease in the energy content, by about 1%. This decrease in energy content may result in slightly reduced peak power and fuel economy."
If it is good enough for ASTM, it is good enough for me.
I wasn't refering to you specifically, but rather other people who may read your post and follow your thought process. Some dont park their pickup when the "hay is in" amd wait for warmer weather. Simply relying on blended fuel is a mistake, especially in the North county.

My snake oil of choice is TCW-3. I don't know if it works in a diesel pump but I do know that little two stroke engines can run for thousands of hours with zero oil pressure if they put this stuff in the gasoline.

What about an additive that sucks up moisture in your tank? Seems like in Winter I get messages that I have water in my tank.

I believe the water needs to get separated out in the water separator, instead of mixing with the fuel and going into the injection pump and injectors. The water in fuel message means you probably need to drain the separator.

It has been awhile since I posted, and even longer since I posted about additives. I was totally all in with the diesel treat by Schaeffer Oil.. it was good but when I ran out and went to Diesel Kleen.. ( Gray Bottle)out of necessity. I noticed that while pulling up a steep grade ,14%, with two Jeeps on a gooseneck.. the truck didnt go into a re-gen. The boost stayed low and the power just kept coming. I had been using Kleen for awhile at that point because I could get it at the local auto shops.. instead of having to order and all that. I use it every tank.. and I like the results.. even better than the diesel Treat I touted for 7 years! I am not saying I think its the best as I used to swear about the latter I used and I dont want to go down that road again but it surely works well for me and my truck seems to respond real well with it.. so I will continue on.

I use the Diesel Kleen also. Considering the cost of HPFP failure on the odd chance of some poor fuel, I can spare a few bucks now and then for the additive.
