One of our neighbor snow bird friends just pulled in today, so good to see them again. They are sporting a beautiful new Grand Junction 5th wheel.
In discussing problems he mentioned the water heater (works fine on elec.) makes the 3 tries to light then goes into reset mode. Sounds like there is ignition and gas present but burns for a short time then quits.
I know I should have more info ie make, model, etc...but just thought someone might know of some common cause we could look at..on old furnaces and residential heaters we would be looking at thermo couplers.....any/all suggestions much appreciated

One possible problem is the air/fuel ratio. There should be a tube surrounding the burner that's about 1/2 to 3/4" diameter and maybe a couple inches long. They're usually right up front and down low. It should have a sliding adjustment or variable opening vent hole in it for better lack of describing it.

Try opening up or closing off the gap and starting it up again. They sometimes vibrate open or closed and throws off the adjustment. A little makes a big difference so make small adjustments and keep trying.

Good luck!

John

Try running a brush through the mixing tube. Something as small as a spider web can cause problems.

Gas and Spark....lockout:

Poor ground connection
Electrodes out of flame pattern
Dirty electrode
Partial obstruction in main burner tube
Partially obstructed main burner orifice (remove and clean with isopropyl alcohol)
Improper air adjustment (should be 1/4 open)
Low voltage (10.5VDC Min)
