I/we have a TT membership and think it is one of our best investments. Several different types of memberships. I would suggest a resale or look at the Zone Pass for $499. 30 nights free camping, then $3 a night. 14 nights camping, 7 out.
Of course being fulltime makes it more practical.

I would recommend the Zone Membership for $499 a year. I would not recommend getting much money involved in any other type membership in TT. I have been a member for well over 25 years but it is nothing like it used to be. It now is like a Calif run park , and open to the public etc etc and none of it good

A term thing you need to consider.

Thousand Trails owns the memberships, a different company owns the campgrounds. They have a lease agreement that expires around 2019. This lease can be extended for up to ten more years, but the company that owns the campgrounds is NOT required to extend this lease.

So, long term, it is possible that in 2020 you could end up with a membership that is only a piece of paper

Many people find that they don't spend enough nights in the rig to justify the up-front and yearly costs of a campground membership

When someone tells you to buy the same rig they own, listen, they might be right. When they tell you to buy a different rig then they own, really pay attention, they probably know something you don't.

You appear to state this with some knowledge. Could you share the source of your information. I am aware that some properties are leased, but to say that all will expire in 2019 is unfounded.

We were gifted a Thousand Trails membership that we share with some siblings. Overall, I like it and we got a good 20+ nights of use out of it last year.

For me, it was a transition from the camping that I grew up with. That was state parks and car/tent camping. I've come to coin this "RV"ing and not "camp"ing. BUT- having the full amenities of the RV parks was nice with the wife and daughter. The pools were a huge hit and the shower + laundry facilities meant we could stay longer. It was just a change in camping styles for me.
