Just a heads up FYI:
This unit seems to be on sale at all the hardware stores right now.

This unit is called Westpointe Twin Ceramic Heater. Picked it off the shelf and looked to see if it had a automatic safety shut off switch. Label stated "Automatic safety shut off".

Went to use it last night and placed on the counter, turned it on and then tipped it to make sure the safety switch worked and it did not shut off.

Upon further inspection it does NOT even have a tip over safety switch.

Pulled the instruction packet out and here is what THIS ceramic safety switch is. ~ If the unit starts to catch fire THEN it shuts off.~ So just a heads up for those of you that want a tip over safety switch this one does NOT have one.

I think the label was VERY misleading since every heater I have seen but this one does have a tip over safety feature and the label states "automatic safety shut off" same as this label did, but heck that's probably why it was on sale.

I will be tossing this one in the garbage today. Counters and tables are small in a MH compared to a house and IMHO, JMHO I want my MH space heater to have a TIP OVER safety switch.

Here is what it looks like.

Bought it 1,000 miles back where it still was 80 degrees and really didn't think I'd need to keep the receipt!

I usually give away some of my things as I travel at the CG's I stop at in the laundry room marked FREE but this item just doesn't seem safe to leave to anyone.

PLEASE Take a few minutes and report it to the Consumer Product Safety Commission at CPSC.GOV...possibly save a life or two.

They say Federal Mandates Law says "An automatic cut-off device is now required to turn off electric or kerosene heaters if they tip over."

Both of these fatal fires were caused by defective electric space heaters! 300 persons a year die this way!

I find this interesting. How many people plug in their new heater, and test the safety switch? This is a tip we should all use.

I noticed when I was looking for a pix to post they have a new model that looks totally different WITH a tip over switch. Perhaps they have been called on it. I don't believe they are mandated to have a tip over switch, just saying that most of us are accustomed to them having one.

Gotta admit I was drawn to it because it had the red lights that come on when heating, which BTW are not lights it is nothing more than a red paint that reacts to heat, which emits a smell that burns your eyes too!!!!

I guess I can say this is the 'worst' thing I have purchased for my MH.

Thats why one should always look for the UL seal. Tip over test protection is a must for their approval. UL approval One of the variables is that a temperature control device can be used with the same results as a switch. Look for the seal.
