A couple of months ago i had a 45 gallon tank put in my 06 chevy crew cab 4x4 D/A replacing the standard 26 gallon. Last week the low fuel light came on. (I don't drive it alot) The computer said i used 40 gallons of fuel when the light came on leaving me with a 5 gallon reserve as i see it. With basically all in town driving and the computer saying i got a little over 14 mpg, i was showing 568 miles on the odometer, The $152 fill up su***, but i was expecting that so it did'nt hurt as much. Next project is having an exhaust brake installed.

Now when you find a gas station that is $0.20 lower cost, it will be worth it to fill up with the 35+ gallons. Even buying a car wash if you can save 20 cents per gallon. You can come back with a car later, to wash it, if your truck will not fit into the carwash.
I was waiting in a Costco line, so the owner could fill his Prius with 7 or 8 gallons of fuel, saving about $0.25 per gallon ($2 total saved) over going to another gas station with no lines down the street. Thinking what a waste of time to save $2.

I have the same truck as the OP and I replaced my OEM 26 gallon tank with a 52 gallon. My low fuel light comes on when I have approx 10 gallons left. I have also noted that the "fuel used" indication is consistently wrong on the high side when only short trips are taken. This shows the mileage is also wrong on the low side. When longer trips are taken these two indicators are pretty close.
I do love the larger tank vs the small OEM one.

Costco membership is up to $50 in Canada. People need to get that back any way they can.

You didn't say what kind of truck, but if it's a Duramax you should look at this; variable vane exhaust brake
It gives variable exhaust braking instead of just either on or off.
It's supposed to help with turbo lag too.
I've had no experience with it, just saw an add in a magazine.

BTW, we drive a Prius. I still look for the lowest price even though it costs me less than half what other people are paying to travel. We average about 52MPG (for real) and I will bet the national average is less than 25. But we make it up when we drive the MH.
You were just upset that you had to wait behind them.

I still can't figure out why they put a 26 gallon tank in a tow vehicle
That's like getting a truck without tow mirrors. What do they think we buy these trucks for.
Yeah I know, not everyone tows and the options help the bottom line.
