The left rear jack would not retract (2007 Kountry Star) in a park in Montana. Atwood gave me the retraction procedure (via telcon) and suggested that we have an technician trouble-shoot the problem. We drove about 250 miles to an authorized service facility. At at the exact moment when we came to a dead stop in the facilities parking lot, the jack dropped to the ground. Can't imagine what might have happened if this had occured at 60 mph. The tech pulled the jack and estimated the repair (replacement) at about $1500, including shipping from the factory. I called Atwood, they appologized and supplied a new jack for free (I paid the shipping fee).
Our guardian angel was looking over us that day.

Those electric jacks have been a nightmare as the seals in them let water in and short them out...I have seen people walk away from a coach due to it.....there is somewhere on this forum a thread on what to do with these electric jacks to replace the seal correctly and to keep water out...

That's a new one! Mostly the jack gears break or the internal "pin" components break, allowing the jack to fall.
I've never heard of Atwood giving a jack away outside of warranty - YOU are a lucky man!

Guys,
This is a new one on me. I had no idea that any coach builder was/is using "electric" jacks. I was under the assumption that the OPs jack problem with his was a hydraulic problem. He didn't mention it was electric. Hmmmm. When he stated the potential cost was at or near $1500.00 for "ONE" jack to be replaced, I have to admit, I thought someone is going to get gouged severely. But, again, that was assuming that his jacks were hydraulic.
