DW and I are wondering what the weather is like in the South West. Not to concerned about the temp but wondering about the wind and dust that will be blowing around. Any help would be helpful.

Last week it was high wind and dust. Back home to green grass and turning trees but now the congestion is back.

I decided high wind and dust must be normal for the South West because no one seems to be concerned about it.

In the desert southwest, dust is a way of life.

Not in Southern Arizona. Our winds are in the Spring & Monsoon season.

LOL From Ft Worth west to the El Cajon pass, you will find find three things.

1. Sand
2. Tumbleweeds
3. You WILL feel the wind.

Thats why there is only a few people out there.

Well the Yuma Sun newspaper just the other day said there should be about 84,000 snowbirds, I prefer sunbirds, this winter in Yuma. I really find that count low going by what we have seen the last nine "winters" here. And we were 50 plus year residents of Penna. You will get some wind and some dust. But the more developement closer to you the less you get.

In Tucson wind is generally not an issue and dust is minimal. Temps in Jan & Feb can drop to 30's or below at night, usually into the 70's during the day. We usually hike into the desert shortly after dawn and need sweaters, but we are carrying them by the time we return an hour later.

We have found New Mexico to be much worse than Arizona. Also, the closer you are to mountains there seems to be less sustained winds.

I guess it depends on where you spend the winter.
We will be in the very far north end of Phoenix for our 4th winter in another month. (Pioneer RV near Anthem.) Again this year we have booked a site that backs onto the desert and the whole campground is "outta town" with hills and desert on all sides. We have never experienced any noticable dust problem even when it gets windy. The desert around us is rocky with lots of mesquite, palo verde and seguaro.
The I10/I8 corridor to the south has a different topography; flatter, a lot of bare areas with soft surface and little vegetative ground cover. More of a dust problem I think.
Trust me. If we had a real winter dust problem my wife wouldda told we about it!
