Traveling to Pine Mtn. Ga. from Fort Myers. What route options do we have. How is hwy 27 from I-10 north to Columbus. Maoquest takes me thru Athens, Ga. Is that the best route.

I-75 north to GA 96 to I-185 and north to the Pine Mt turnoff. Or you could take US-27 from Columbus rather than I-185. I don't understand how I-10 would be involved.

US 27 intersects I-10 at Tallahassee. North on US 27 goes through Bainbridge, GA and on to Columbus where it intersects with I-185N. It is a pleasant road with on & off 4-lanes and very little traffic. It does go through the Ft. Benning Miliary Reservation south of Columbus, so watch your speed. I don't know whether this is shorter than the I-75 route. I am puzzled by the reference to Athens, GA though, it is no where near Pine Mountain. lizzie

I just did mapquest for you trip and it did not to anywhere near Athens, GA. Maybe you should redo, or maybe you meant Albany, GA which is near the route.

Personally, and what I've done, is stay on I-75 to Tifton, take US 82 (I think it's exit 62) West to the Albany bypass, and then take GA 520 to Columbus, and catch US 27 just south of there. It's all good road, well marked and mostly 4 lane divided. It'll take 2.5 to 3 hours to get from the border to Pine Mountain.

X2 on what Bob said above.
Instead of using I-75 to get to Ocala I often go to Columbus and then 27 and 520 to Albany. US19 south ties into US 27 east of Tallahassee and these are all good roads all the way from Pine Mountain to Brooksville. Very little traffic, even during the holidays when I-75 becomes a parking lot. Have not used 19 south of Brooksville so not sure where you should get on it. I always fuel up in Albany as it has the less expensive fuel prices and usually 10 cents less than anything on I-75.
This post is my opinion (free advice). It is not intended to influence anyone's judgment nor do I advocate anyone do what I propose.

Actually, US 82 goes straight to Columbus from Albany, GA. Then take I-185 north about 45 miles and you will see signs to Pine Mt.

Be sure you don't go through Columbus; take the bypass. I-185 I think it is.

Sorry, but US 82 peels off to the West at Dawson, and goes to Eufala Alabama. You pick-up GA520 and US 82, from the Albany bypass, and the 520 expressway will take you all the way to US27/I-185.
