Going to try camping at Thanksgiving for the first time this year in our travel trailer. We will be staying at a state park with electric and water and a fire ring. It's been so dry in Florida there are campfire bans in effect so I'm not sure if a fire will be allowed then. Any good suggestions for cooking the bird I know a 15 pound turkey won't fit in the oven.

I think you can try a Cobb Grill or even a turkey fryer kit. They are soooo goooood.

We use a Rival roaster. If you use one, pay attention to the instructions regarding cooking time as it cooks quicker than a conventional oven. If the weather is good, we put it out on the picnic table so we have more working space inside to prepare the side dishes.

Since anything fried is good, go with fried turkey! Those are great!

4 whopping cylinders on Toyota RV's. Talk about great getting good MPG. Also I have a very light foot on the pedal. I followed some MPG advice on Livingpress.com and I now get 22 MPG! Not bad for a home on wheels.

Did one in a Weber Kettle Charcoal Grill......bank the coals on each side with drip pan in middle. Takes several hours so will have to add coals occasionally,

Tent bird with aluminum foil until last 40 mins. Came out real tasty.

Just throw the smoker on the back of the truck. Where you going to? Ft Clinch? or further away from home?

Several years ago, we stayed at a state park for Thanksgiving, and had a fire ban. I was still allowed to deep fry the turkey. We had planned to stay for 6 days but cut it short at 4 days. 4 wet, cold, rainy days but still couldnt have a fire until Forest Service cancelled the ban. Lucky for me the rain didnt start until Thanksgiving night, after the frying was over.

This year we are bringing left overs from turkey dinner at work.

We have camped just about every Thanksgiving from 2003 on. I found a recipe for Cornish Game Hens in a Dutchoven that works out great over coals. DH has to use 2 when both of our DS come with DDIL's. This year we will be at Lake Benbrook, first time at this COE campground. Not much water in the lake, but will have a good time anyway & campfires have be out of the picture for several years.

We bought a turkey fryer about 10 years ago and have cooked it that way ever since. 15lb turkey 45 minutes. For great results you have to use good oil, peanut oil is the preferred. One year I bought cheaper oil and was very disappointed with the results. When you lower the bird into the oil it seers the bird so the oil stays out and the natural juices stay in, its great!!!! I just made myself hungry lol.

We went Thanksgiving Camping in Oregon once and had the greatest time. I love the idea of Cornish Game hens. We actually precooked the turkey, boned it and froze it. It was delicious. We also precooked the yams. It was delicious.
