have some spray cans of wd40 and the nozzle is clogged. how do i get the nozzle unclogged? have tried pin in the opening but no good. is there another valve under the top of the can that is supposed to open when the top is depressed? is puncturing the can a bad idea? wd is flammable so i dont want to use a drill? if i can get the oil it would be wiped on rusty tools. what do you suggest?

I'd throw them away and buy new. The can is likely highly-pressurized. Poking a hole in it is dangerous, drilling a hole is crazy, and poking at the can's valve are all bad ideas!!

Whatever you do DO NOT DRILL THE CAN!. The butane propellant is HIGHLY flammable and is under high pressure.
If another spray nozzle (another WD40 can or paint spray can) does not work, it's time to ditch that can and buy another one. It's not THAT expensive and certainly not worth the risk of fire or other personal injury that you would be taking if you tried to drill it!

BTW, WD40 is NOT an oil, its primary function is Water Displacement, which is where the name comes from.

A good penetrating oil would be better for your tools.

If you decide not to take the above list of advice, let me know when you try to probe or make a hole in the can to extract the WD40, I want to watch from a pretty darn good distance. Seriously, just toss the cans, buy a nice new one. I can't believe that you have even one can that fails to spray, I've never had one plug up or fail....if it did I think I'd just spray it with another can of WD 40 it seems to fix any problem that duct tape doesn't.

Ditto on not puncturing the can! Too risky.

I've actually had more rust than I ever imagined could happen from using WD40.

At the risk of hijacking the thread, Does NAPA still make the 1234 product. I have an old can I've been using since throwing away my WD40. I wonder if it is similar to the 6-56?

First and foremost, WD40 is a solvent. It's lubricating properties are minimal. If you want to protect your tools, use something like Marvel Mystery Oil (great stuff) or any light penetrating oil. Thry to avoid lubricants that contain silicone.

Before you throw the can away, try turning it upside down and pressing the spray nozzle. This leaves the pickup tube out of the oil and sometimes the pressure inside the can will clean the nozzle.
