We are leaving here in a few weeks and noticed on the Iowa state road condition maps that I-29 is closed because of flooding or alot of repairs are being done.
We will be coming down Highway 75 from the north in Iowa towards Sioux City Iowa. We want to go to a campground in North Sioux City SD just north of where highway 75 comes into Sioux City Iowa. All I can see are ramps closed to try and get onto I-29 north to the KOA campground for the night. So, that's the first question, what is the best route to get onto I-29 north from highway 75 north?
Second question is: Can you get over the bridge in Sioux City Iowa in order to get onto highway 77 south? Is this a good highway if we want to skip I-29 in Iowa because of all the flooding problems and go down to Gretna NE where there is a Flying J I always stop at?
I've done alot of reasearch on this but have never travelled highway 77 south of Sioux City. I hope one can get over the bridge there on the Missouri river?
Thanks again.

We're facing the same problems as you except we're coming up from the south. I've also been watching this situation real close for the past six weeks.
With all the uncertainty in the Sioux City area and I-29, suggest you take a look at turning west on I90, where US75 crosses. It's only a few miles further.
Turn south on I-29 and come down from Sioux Falls to the KOA.
Once you get there you'll be able to get first hand information on how to continue south.
We normally come up US75 into the Omaha area, then head north on I-29 but that's out for this year. I'm looking very seriously at US81 up to I-90 then east to I-29 at Sioux Falls.
The most recent info that I have is that the major problems and closures are from Missouri City on I-29, I-680 in the Omaha area, the the worst from south of Council Bluffs down to Rockport, MO about 15 miles south of the IA/MO state line.

Hi, Toban -- Try this site clicky. Shrink down the map and put your cursor over any symbols to see their details.
I'm not sure where your CG in Sioux City is, but it appears from the Iowa DOT map that you can get through. A month ago today we travelled from Fremont, NE to Sioux City via US 77 - NICE road and a pretty drive. In the Sioux City area US 77 runs into I-129 and it's bridge will carry you across the river to I-29. At that point we headed north. Northbound I-29 was OK through Sioux City, but there is a construction project slowing things down on I-29 southbound thru town (been going on for a couple of years, I think). Happy travels - Mrs. D

Just traveled that way on Sunday from Sioux Falls. We were going to KC. I-29 is open to Sioux City with only the occasional construction. It was open all the way to I-680 near Omaha. We went east on I-680 to I80 to US 71. Hope this helps everyone.
