My entry step has started making a chattering noise just before it folds up completely as they retract. Any suggestions?

I would start with a visual check for twigs or trash. Then a good dose of WD-40. After that, I'm out of ideas.
Best of luck and Happy Trails.

Clean and lubricate. Do not use WD 40, it's not a good lubricant.
Read the Kwikee Steps website.

Please read gbopp's post...he is correct...Do not use WD40...the WD stands for WATER Displacement...it attracts dirt, grime, sand and road junk...A good dry silicone will work or KwikeeLube......Dennis

A five year old step needs lube, Silicone works best.
Check the owners manual for maintaining it.
