Tony, I am sure you found some station to buy some diesel. In Fairbanks, I usually buy diesel from the Fred Meyer store on Airport Way or if I need to dump, or propane, and diesel, I will head out to Sourdough Fuel, the one on Johansen Expressway and the corner of where Danby St. runs into it. Big station, lots of pumps and plenty of room to maneuver an RV. There is also a station out toward Ester, on the way south on the Parks Hwy. that tends to be one of the price leaders for fuel in Fairbanks. Can't call the name off hand, just know where it is located when I need it. The 13 years we lived in Nenana, just a ways southwest of Fairbanks, this was the main station I used for diesel when I was in town. (Gold Hill is the name of the station out by Ester. I had to go look it up. I just love what this getting old stuff is doing to my memory. LOL)

Bring it on we got diesel coming out of our ears. Seriously diesel is everywhere here. 4 trips up and down the ALCAN not a problem even in the off (winter) months. Always take my RV south in October or November and plenty of stations at that time of year. SUmmer is even better.

Yes of course, the station just down the road had diesel, as did most other outlets - so was just pointing out that of course diesel isn't available at EVERY gas station, just as it isn't available in EVERY station in the other states down south, so the OP needn't worry that alaska is on another planet. They will feel at home in all things they cherish dearly, plus get to experience a few other things as well.
As I and others said in another topic, apart from making sure the rig is in good condition, May June or July - Head north. August, September, October - Head south is enough microplanning to be concerned with.

We spent July, August and Some of September in Alaska and Canada. Diesel in Anchorage and Fairbanks was the cheapest, around $4.25/gal. Other areas it was as much as $5.00. In Canada and the Yukon, I averaged about $5.50 a gallon with our highest at Pink Mountain of $7.40/gal! Once you go north of Banf NP, the prices rise steadily in small amounts at first. Who know what it will be like next year? I've been there, done that, and I probably couldn't afford to do it again. I'll continue to fly up to fish though.
See ya down the road.

Over the span of the past two weeks saw diesel prices range from 4.68 (Glitter Gulch as they were turning out the lights and locking the doors) to 4.15 (Los Anchorage, just yesterday).
There's diesel available in Alaska just like anywhere else.
Have been up here long enough now to dislike "rush hour" in Los Anchorage. Thank goodness ( ) for routine trips to Ewe-stun to remind me what traffic is.

Just remember to fill up before entering Canada. It lessens the pain somewhat

Not a problem. Not sure what type RV you have, but for us we have a 5th wheel and our truck has an auxilary tank. We can carry 90+ gallons. Its a good back up, but we never came close to running out. It got us a good distance into Canada before we had to fill up with the higher prices in Canada.
