We are having structual issues with our fifth wheel.
Which we are having repaired at an RV repair facility.
We were told not to take it to Alaska next year as we have planned.
The reason he said this is the "roads are rough up there and it would not help our problem even after reenforcement". The front cap is separating from the sides due to pin box flexing.
My question is, are the roads that rough up there? I thought most all of them are paved and aside from frost heaves thing were not that bad.
Any opinions from those of yu who have been there???

Tha Alaska highway is paved and smooth with the exception of the frost heaves from Destruction Bay to Tok. I always go south at Tok.
The frost heaves are usually marked. Slow down, slower than you think you need to and don't get in a hurry. If you haven't had to deal with one for a few miles don't get confident and speed up.

THE ROADS ARE NOT THAT BAD!!! You have to watch for frost heaves - most are marked. Drive like you had some sense and you will not have any problems. You are there to se the scenery, after all. There will be a lot of construction areas - most have guide cars so they limit your speed.

When I went to Alaska, the roads were paved and most of the time smooth. However, there are the exceptions. In Canada, the speed limit is slower than the US (often 45 or 50 MPH). We didn't have any problems, however we were tent camping and carried everything in the back of pickup.

The main cause of damage on the Alaska Hwy apart from speeding oncoming traffic throwing up rocks, is people see a speed limit, i.e. 90kph and insist on driving 90kph, disregarding those little sticks with red ribbons.......severe frost heaves!
As far as the severe road conditions around Destruction Bay, the permafrost is so unstable it cannot be paved.

Also, the last 40 km before your hit the Alaska border. That seemed to be the worst of the frost heaves.

They are smoother than I70 thru Indiana. Without a doubt the worst stretch of interstate in the US.
