Is there any Wifi booster that will receive a signal from a half mile or more? Not asking about satellite cards, monthly payment contracts.
Just some simple antenna, with a one time purchase.

1/2 mile may be too far but I've bought more the 10 of these for friends. If the signal 1/2 mile away is someone you know, you could try putting the same Yagi antenna on their router pointed in your direction. Wifi is a two way street so it has to be able to receive your signal, the same as your Wifi card has to receive it. For another $8 you can buy this antenna, but the other router has to have a screw on antenna.
I was recently in a little Mom and Pop CG and by loaning them one of my Yagi antenna's I was able to get on line where before I could not.

This post is my opinion (free advice). It is not intended to influence anyone's judgment nor do I advocate anyone do what I propose.

A directional antenna boosts your signal strength both coming and going.

Here is an article on making your own 16dBi directional antenna for about $10. It might be fun to make one and try it before investing in a production model.

I was just re-reading about bi-quad antennas. Peopel report getting and send a signal several miles under the right conditions eg no trees, buildings. I didn't find any complete systems; looks like you would have to buy a separate USB adapter that has an ext antenna port and buy a cable. Interesting tho.

You can Google biquad antenna, etc to read more. Or Google "wardriving".

My setup will do that. A Alpha AWUS 036NH USB adapter and a Jefa Tech 19db gain flat panel directional antenna. Buy the Jefa with a RP-SMA connection to match the antenna connection on the Alpha. I bought my Alpha and the coax from data-alliance.net. I upgraded from a 036H and the NH is much stronger.

If you're halfway handy with basic tools you can make your own real cheap. These were popular here a few years ago before commercial models came out.
They can pull in a signal from a mile away or more.

If there is foilage trees or builgings in between then no chance at all for ten miles. Now if one was on a hillside looking down then possibly but it would have to be an absolute clear shot.
