Not sure if this is the correct forum but I didn't know where to post it.
I currently have 2 Honda 2000i generators with the old style "parallel power kit" that allows both to be used together for a 30 amp service.
I have seen that the NEW "companion" Honda 2000i has a built in 30 amp plug making it a cleaner and more efficient system.
I am considering selling ONE of my Honda 2000i's along with the old style "parallel power kit" and purchasing the companion.
Is there any benefit of one over the other? I realize that I am losing 1 120 volt outlet on the "companion" but that's not an issue with me.
Thanks!

Everything I've read says that it's the same, just that you lose the box sticking out from one of the generators. Were it me, I'd not "fix" this non-issue...unless you think the parallel box is just so ugly you can't stand looking at it any more. :-)

I have both the generaors you asked about. You don't get anything more from it, just the conveience of ease of hook-up. Unless you have so much money to burn through, I don't think I would get a companion over a 2000i.
One other thing, I wish the companion had a RV outlet, not the contractor's outlet. It would make it that more streamlined not having to put an adaptor on it.

I don't know if this would help you but it sounds like all your wanting is one plug.

Thanks for the information, I appreciate it. It's not the the look I am concerned about but the size of the generator with the box on it. The cover doesn't fit and it's too big for the front compartment of my trailer. I was simply thinking of the "streamline" form.
I thought you could just plug your 30 amp trailer plug into the companion but apparently there is still an adapter plug required?

Well, I guess that's a valid reason. :-) Yes, you need an adapter to plug your standard 30a plug in. One of the reasons is that the plug on the generation actually twist-locks about 1/8 turn to keep it from backing out from vibration. It =is= a valid concern, as I've had it happen with 110v plugs.

IMO - for the broadest exposure (views, replies) - the best bet would be in the *Tech Issues* forum.
Majority of Generator Q & A and info is there.
