OK I might be taking the ferry with the 5th wheel from Cape may NJ to Lewes, DE.... Once I get off in Lewe's - are there trailer friendly way to get to Ocean City MD from there? Mapquest was sending me via Route 1 but that does not look like the best way

yes, that's the best way. its trafficy until you get past the malls in lewes/rehobeth but a divided 4 lane hiway into o/c. i dont think there are any campgrounds right in o/c anymore but there are 2 just over the bridge on rte 50 that are nice

I've taken my 37' Southwind down Route 1 and through OCMD to Route 50 with no problems, just normal heavy traffic. You'll be okay.

The only other way would be to take route 9 or 24 over to route 113 and down to Berlin. All good roads. That would be the LONG way around however. Watch your speed limit going through Dewey and Bethany beach if you take route 1. As mentioned above, take your time and you'll be fine going thru OC.

You will hit about 75-80 traffic lights taking the coastal route, traffic may be a pain at times but the roads are in good condition and some of the sights are enjoyable. The worst area is the Rehoboth area, by all the shopping outlets. Dewey is a small town, not too bad, then you will drive thru Delaware Seashore State Park, approx 6 miles of dunes on 1 side and the Inland bays on the other. Cross over Indian River Inlet, then thru Bethany and South Bethany, then Fenwick Island State Park into Fenwick Island and Ocean City MD. You will have to travel approx 140 blocks to get to the rt 50 bridge to 50 west to 611 south. If traffic is bad when you hit OC Md. you can pick up the rt 90 bridge around 60th st, take Rt 90 west approx 5 miles to Rt 113 south to Berlin and take the road to Assateague (1 mile past hospital) which will put you on rt 611 between Assateague and Castaways. Make a left onto 611, pass Frontier Town and Castaways is approx 3 miles on the right.

Castaways is a nice new clean CG, although pricey, you will enjoy your stay. Have a safe trip.

Don't like the view?? Then change it and Go CampingOur pics

While it might be longer it also might be a lot less traffic.

That's the way we go when going by car to Berlin.

I say RT 1 as well. You will hit some traffic, but will be fine with your 5er. I take mine through there a few times a year. We usually do Frontier Town, haven't tried Castaways yet.

Like someone else said, watch your speeds in the small towns....

I also would do rt24 or 9 to 113.

Taking RT 1 through Rehoboth, Dewey, over the inlet bridge (construction down to 1 lane each direction), Bethany, and Fenwick Island. That's the easy part.

Once you get into Ocean City.. it will take you forever to get through town. Too many traffic lights and too many cars.

You will be much better off using RT 24 or 9. to 113.

You didn't mention what day of the week and what time of the day.. that also makes a big difference.
