truck had to be towed from dawson city to the ford dealer in whitehorse and that is covered under my car insurance - good sam's will not tow my 5th wheel there because it is not disabled - would cost a fortune to ship to whitehorse by a towing company - if anyone was going that way I would pay for your gas and then some - traveling with another couple with a 5th wheel and he offered to tow his 1/2 way and then come back for mine and then repeat the process the next day - hate to put him through that ordeal if someone with the capability of towing a 5th wheel just happened to be going that way - they wouldn't have to pay for their gas and it would save me a lot of $ - strictly a shot in the dark as we will be leaving tomorrow August 3rd around noon - Bob = NOW IT IS 8/6 AND WE ARE IN WHITEHORSE WITH THE RIG AND THE TRUCK IS AT THE FORD DEALER - my friend towed his rig half way and then came back for me - next day we repeated the process - that's how I moved the rig - Called GS about my rig when we 1st broke down on the Dempster and after 50 minutes on a borrowed satellite phone the person could not locate us - had no idea where the Yukon was - had to give the phone up - drove to Dawson City to get tow for my truck - too dangerous a setting to be waiting for someone at GS to help, plus low on food and water - spoke to GS when we got to Dawson City and they said they would not tow the 5th wheel to Whitehorse because it was not disabled - argued that my 5th wheel without a truck is disabled - told them I was forced to act on my own for the above reasons and that their person dropped the ball - will wait until the truck is done and we are back in the USA to continue the discussion with them - did want to let those following this post know how things turned out - will post in a few weeks about how I make out with GS

Why didn't the towing company tow the 5th wheel with the truck? I had a failure like that at Donner Pass and the towing company towed the whole combo to Sparks and GS paid it.

I"d be looking for a new towing insurance policy. How can they say the 5th wheel is not disabled when it's tow vehicle is no longer able to tow it? for what it's worth, the drive from Dawson City to Whitehorse is only a one day drive so your friend COULD tow his trailer to Whitehorse in one day then return the next and stay in your trailer overnight, then tow yours to Whitehorse the next day. Not a BIG savings but would save a day at least doing it that way.
From my personal knowledge of the Ford Dealer in Whitehorse your BIGGEST problem may getting them to work on your truck quickly. When I stopped there a couple of years ago they wanted me to make an appointment for "next month" to get a "check engine' code read.

Good luck / Skip

If you have problems that Ford can't get to within the time frame you need contact "Horseman Mechanical Company" located in Whitehorse. they work of diesel trucks all the time and do very good work. They got me in the same day to get my codes read and I was back on the road (Still with the check light on but now knowing it was not a huge concern) within a couple of hours.

GS is just following their protocol because they did not tow the truck. You created the situation by NOT using GS for both the truck and the 5er. Good luck in you hunt to get the 5er moved.

If you need Horsman (highly recommended), they're down in the industrial area behind WalMart, at 867-633-5659

Good luck!

So we understand, was the 5er attached to the truck when it broke down? Or was it set up in a campground/RV Park.

Just wanting to understand where GS is coming from, as we have GS ERS as well.

One thing you can try is putting a listing at www.uship.com. If you are lucky, you might be able to find someone fairly cheap.

If it was the weekend, we'd be able to help out. It would be a day's drive to Dawson and then a day back. BUT ... mid-week is a tough one to manage with work!

At least the weather is absolutely grand for the effort!

Ok after reading your post twice I kinda get it

1) sorry for your break down in a secluded place
2) you should just have used good Sam’s for the whole package…they would of taken everything south.
3) there is two mechanics in Dawson City(that I know of)…did you ask them to look at it…one works out of the(small) Napa parts store.

I know by now you and your 5ver are on the way south.
and I feel your frustrations.

Here is what has happen to us up there

Situation

Aug 2009 Truck breaks down in Teslin Yukon
No Garage, No mechanic and no way of fixing the truck.

I had to get it towed back to Whitehorse…..Crap…..I let my 2008 Good Sam’s run out.

I phoned Good Sam’s from the pay phone in Teslin campground. I told them the predicament and they said we can start a new membership for you, but it will take 48 hours to come into effect. I did it.

At first I was really worried and upset….then it hit me, I was stranded in Teslin Yukon by a beautiful lake Hiking, fishing, and pretty much everything I wanted to do, except drive!.

48 hours later I phoned good sams and they sent a tow truck from Whitehorse to Teslin, picked up the truck and me, drove back to Whitehorse.

Garage couldn’t get to the truck till the next day,
Went to the car rental place…they only accept AMA….told them the situation and that I have good Sam’s, they gave me 10% of the rental even though they don‘t take Good Sam‘s….drove back to Teslin to see my wife, dogs and camper. 2 days later drove back to whitehorse to get the truck. Spent $165 on the rental, $380 on the truck repair and I did not have to pay for the Tow!

The tow would have been $550 plus.

One year membership $100.…and the tow covered.

They have me as a customer for life.

If you ever are in Teslin, Yukon stay at the Yukon Motel and Campground. Great people, Great place and say Hi! To Juanita the owner and all around nice person.

Note: The towing company would have taken the truck, camper and trailer to Whitehorse, it was a flat deck hauler, but I decided not too, since I had already it unloaded them.
