I am thinking of installing a Roof Vent Cover. Looks fairly easy to install looking at the YouTube videos. My only concern is my 6 foot 190 pound frame being on a fiber glass roof. Any concerns damaging the roof? Thanks,
This is the type I am thinking about.

I'd consider using the Maxxaire type that swoops back more and opens down, similar to the one with the fan in it. then you can leave it open during the rain, etc. also, use the L brackets to mount it to the old vent frame, do NOT screw it down into the roof.

you should be able to install it from a ladder. I would not advise getting on the roof. It is a simple procedure, about half an hour at most.

I know it is a simple procedure but I think it would be difficult to do reaching/drilling from a ladder.

May i suggest wrapping some towels around the top of the ladder ends and lean the ladder against the side of the B? You can reach the vent cover easily. This is what I do when I clean and wax the fiberglass top. With your 6 foot frame, it should not be a problem.
IMO, it is not advisable to stand on the fiberglass due to safety concerns. If you have to stand on top, put some plywood sheets down first to distribute your body weight so the roof does not start crackling or break.
IMO, I would rather have a "stealthy" look and not have a cover that screams "RV!" I want people to think our B is a custom "van." But, this is just my preference.

I installed a Fantastic Fan in the middle of my just installed fiberglass roof several years ago. You can't believe how thin and unsupported most fiberglass tops are, at least where I put mine. There are stengthening ribs towards the rear of the top but it may still flex with your weight. I had to build up the roof with fiberglass and wood to adequately install the fan. The issue with flexing the roof is that the gel coat may begin to surface crack and discolor over time (happened on my previous van). You can test it first and if it gives at all I'd opt for a ladder. Check out VHB tapes, JB Weld, or using epoxy rather than screws to mount the cover.

I installed a maxair fanmate over the fantastic fan or our Roadtrek RS. I was able to use a step ladder and not even get on the roof. The RS is taller than most Bs, so I think you should be OK. I like the fanmate as it's supposed to be designed to cover a fantastic type fan. Maxxair says they don't paint very well, so I got the black which looks better on my van.

There is no need to drill any holes. The covers are made to attach to the existing bolts holding the fan.

The videos I have seen, they drill holes on the side metal of the vent frame. That would be cool if you are correct.

I have installed 3 over the years and never had to drill a hole. Perhaps one of the newer models requires it. I would check before I purchased.
