Dont know what your RV is but my sister brings her dog along all the time. They have a fifth wheel and put in a pet door just as you step into the trailer that goes into the pass-thru storage area. He fixed up a nice walled area there for the dog - plenty of room and nice and comfy for the dog. The door can be closed but it is always open... Their dog is right at home living in "his" room...

We currently travel with three (smallish) dogs. We've had everything from a pop up to a travel trailer and now our motor home. It is fun for all of us, but I have to admit it's easier now with the motor home.

There are rules regarding your pet(s) in all campgrounds and RV Parks, like cleaning up after them, keeping them on a lead or leash at all times, etc. As long as you abide by the rules and make sure your dog doesn't bark and disturb your neighbors, you will enjoy your adventures with your dog. He or she will enjoy it as well. Sure there will be adjustments to your routine to be able to take your dog along but since dogs love to be anywhere their owners are you should get along just fine.

Here is a link to the RV Pet Stop portion of this forum. Come on over and get to know those of us who regularly post there!

You mean I can take the RV out without my dog? What would be the point?

Our boxers go with us! We've not done an extended trip yet but this Sept. are planning about a month traveling to, in & from Utah. We live in southern Indiana. I know we can't take them everywhere with us so am researching boarding facilities where we can leave them for a few hours during the day.

They do require some extra packing and effort. They have their own cots, doggy beds, collection of towels, collars, harnesses, leashes, food, treats, water buckets, food bowls, blankets, tie outs & poop bags so their stuff sometimes rivals our stuff!

Anyone camping/traveling with dogs needs to be conscious of the rules for the campground and considerate of others. Dogs should not be allowed to yap non-stop. ALL dogs should be restrained ALL OF THE TIME for their safety. Small dogs that come charging out of campsites to challenge big dogs sometimes don't fare so well...and... pick up the deposits no matter how large! Small dog poo is just as unpleasant as large dog poo.

We take our 2 dalmations all the time. We have a pen set up for them being outside that has a shade tent and blanket. For inside they have their beds and stay in them. We set the screen door up with a cheap slide bolt from Ace Hardware so they can push it open. We always clean up after them (unlike some others) and make sure they are scolded when they bark. They get very excited when they see us loading for a trip and are worse then the kids about leaving.

Its fun to have them lay by me when driving the MH and when they stand on the doghouse to make sure I'm driving safely and in the correct direction.

Have Fun and Enjoy

We always take my DDs 84# Red Bone mix and our 65# Texas Healer any where we camp and never have had any problems. We keep them both on a lease and advise any one that comes around the campsite not to go near the Healer. And since the Red Bone bit the Swanns delivery man we keep a closer eye on him too. First and only person he ever went after, and the Healer ignores the Swann's man I guess because he brings food and the Red Bone is to young to understand that.

We travel with our 2 greyhounds and 1 weiner dog. The greys are just huge couch potatoes, and the weiner dog sleeps anyplace he can cover up to keep warm. I have 3 X-pens that I connect together, then I attach one end of the pens to one side of the door, and the other end to the other side of the door. This allows me to open the door and let them in or out (they don't use the steps)they just jump right in. This setup works well especially "if" someone is careless and does NOT watch to make sure it is safe to open the door, it's not fun trying to catch a greyhound that goes for a run. I can let them nap in the yard, or put them on a leash and take them for a walk. Greyhounds are not barkers, need very little exercise BUT boy can they nap. Plus the pens help keep other loose dogs from getting ahold of my dogs. I also hate those extendable leashes, they do not provide any control over your pet.

We ALWAYS bring our dog out with us. It wouldn't be the same without her. She's an integral part of the family and she loves camping as much as we do!
