I'm scheduled to leave for Ocean City, MD in a few weeks- (Leaving from Central NJ)- About 4 hours- The night before I leave- I have to be in Sea Isle NJ- According to Mapquest- I can drive from Sea Isle to Cape May and put truck and trailer on the ferry to Lewes, DE. has anyone every done this?? it would shave off a lot of time but I'm sure it's pricy and maybe not a good plan.......

Maybe it's best to figure out both routes, ferry or via Wilmington DE, then deduct your addtional travel cost from the ferry price.
I'm sure the ferry will be quite a bit more but, it's a nice stress free ride across the bay.
Personally I would spend the money and take the ferry.

We take the ferry on our way south and again when return north. You are already there being at Sea Isle and Cape May. We enjoy the ferry as it seems like a mini cruise. It does save time and gas. When you consider driving north to pick up 95 only to turn south again and pay $17.00 to cross the bridge, the ferry route makes more sense.

Definitely the ferry. Also suggest you take advantage of the opportunity to reserve a place on the ferry for the sailing time you want. It costs an additional $5 but is well worth the peace of mind. It is possible you would arrive at the wrong time and not be able to fit onto the ferry on a first come first serve basis. Being in Sea Isle you will save time and enjoy the ride simply riding due south to the ferry instead of having to go both west and north to reach your destination. We've done it a number of times and the only times we were sorry is when we did not reserve our spot.

We just took the ferry after visiting our cousins who live down the street from it. The ferry is the way to go. It is pricey but we saw tons of bait fish and nine pods of dolphin on the way to Lewis.

Take the Ferry. The toll over the DM Bridge and the additional fuel cost would take a huge chunk out of the cost for the ferry. As mentioned above, it's a fun and relaxing trip.

Expect them to tell you to turn off propane at the tank, and possibly to inspect the inside of your camper. They checked my RV once in four trips. All they did was look in the coach door, but it's a small RV.

Don't know where you're going in O.C. (Frontier Town, Castaways, etc.?), but consider cutting over from Lewes to 113 south, rather than Rt. 1 (Coastal Highway). Along with the endless string of traffic lights in the Rehoboth/Dewey area and Ocean City, construction of the new Indian River Inlet bridge has traffic down to one lane each way 'til the end of this year or so. The 113 route is maybe 5 miles longer, but probably faster, and definitely less stressful.
