If I only went to FHU sites, I would be so bored that I would probably sell the rig and take up toenail collecting.

If you always use FHU campsites, I would not add a second battery. I would buy the cheepest one I could find. Good luck.

I use the Walmart Max w/205 min reserve cap. I am using this on a TT that is set up permanently on a site with no hookups. I stay in this unit from 45 to 60 days a year. The battery I am using has been in use since 2005.

I just changed by fifth wheel from 2 six volt batteries to one twelve vote. Would you spend the extra money for an interstate (yellow top) battery or just go to wall mart and get the best one that they sell or some other option? We do not boon dock.

With a large fifth wheel, I found that one battery was only marginally adequate, even with full hook ups. If you have to do much raising, lowering before hooking up to shore power, you will need a fully charged good battery at all times.

I would stay with your original setup. To save money, I went with two new Interstates (12 volt) I found discounted 1/2 price as they were 6 months old at the time.

Stay with two 6 volt batteries and get Trojans. They are far superior and if you find a distributor you can get them for the same money as the inferior brands.

I bought Costco batteries as replacements for my old 12 volts. The decision was solely based on their warranty policy. They will refund your money in full anytime during the warranty period if you buy the replacement(s) from them. So my next set of batteries(2X6 volt golf cart) will cost me the inflation difference between last year when I bought them and when they go "bad". I consider that pretty cheap.

Yellow Top as in Optima marketed by Interstate? No way.

I would just get a 24 or 27 wet cell at Costco or WM.
I would put two 6ers in long before spending money on an Optima.

If you want the simple maintenance of AGM get a Lifeline brand AGM.

I would get a couple of 27's from Walmart or Costco. Just in case the park looses power or something, you'll still be able to run the heater or whatever else.
