We just noticed that the edge of the rubber roof where it meets the side of the RV is tearing right along the edge.

How is something like this repaired?

Not much information but a fix would be eternadond tape if there is enough room on the sides for it to be applied and hold…

This might be a mfg defect also… I have seen exactly this before caused by the siding not being properly trimmed and cutting the rubber from the underside…

x2 on the Eternabond. Can you post some pictures? They would help.

If its to close to the edge tape may not work or be a reliable repair…

Depending on the cause patching might be a endless battle to…

Most of the mfg’s just run some duct tape along the edges to protect the rubber from the sharp edges… this doesn’t always work as well as it should…

Based on personal experience and 2 years into it, if done properly Eternabond could be a very reliable permanent repair.

That is not what I said, and I agree that eternabond is a good product, I think I even suggested it to him…

But if I read his post right the splitting is on the edge and there may not be enough rubber on one side of the split to properly apply or say that tape is the best or even a good answer…

While he didn’t supply much information or any pictures, I have seen what I think he is describing… if it is what I think it is the rubber was weakened (cut) from the underside and is a mfg defect…

If it’s a mfg defect I would seal it with some acrylic caulk then talk to the mfg…

I believe even eternabond would agree it isn’t the cure all for every situation…

Thanks for your input.
I think there may be just enough room for tape. It appears that the roofing material is applied over possibly plywood. It is on the TOP edge ... right along that corner... where the roofing material wraps around the side and tucks under the plywood. There is the thickness of the plywood on the vertical side for applying tape. Could the rubbing on the edge of the plywood have caused the cut along that edge??

I have the picture on my desktop. HOW DO I GET THE PICTURE INTO THIS POST?

Hi,

Take the RV for a drive at freeway speeds, and have someone follow, and look at the roof from all sides. Make sure that it is not inflating like a balloon while at freeway speeds. This would cause the seams to tear apart from the sidewalls.

The roof material should be glued down across the roof, to the subsurface, but it might have failed, or they may have never installed the glue at the factory. Some manufactures claim "Does not need glue across the roof, it will stick anyway."

Hi,

To post a picture, first it needs to be on the internet at an address.

Photoshop.com is a common place. Don't put a password on the pictures (set so anyone can view the pictures). Open a account at Photoshop, it is free. Upload the picture to the internet site.

It will then post 4 internet addresses for each photo that you post. You want to click on the one that ends in .jpg

The open the RV.net window, go to "Advanced Post" or go to your post and click on "Edit" and you will have little icons on the top - above the black space for writting a message. One looks like a little yellow postcard, with a mountain and stamp on the upper right. Click on that, and a subroutine will open. In the top line paste the URL adress (Hit CRTL V) and then the next two spaces are for the height and width. Do not exceed 600 wide. I like to use 320 X 520 or something to keep the aspect ratio similar to 5X7".

Click finished and the picture details will be added to your text in the post. Hit enter at least twice, so there is a gap between the pictures and the next text that you write. You can put text above or below each picture, or no text if desired. Yet hit enter at least once, or the pictures will come out side by side, instead of stacked on top of each other. Text would come out beside the picture, not a good thing.

You can add several pictures to each post, yet if you go over 5 or 6 pictures, someone on a phone modum will have a problem opening that page, as there is a lot of data in each picture, and it will take longer to open each page.

Then hit "Post Message" when you are done.

I just tried the directions to posting a picture, but it didn't work. I will have to practice! Our photoshop address is cardonkre.photoshop.com.

We called Arctic Fox and sent pictures through email. They said that the tear along the edge (116 inches) is not a warranty item. They said they would give us an estimate to repair it.

We used EternaBond tape to repair it ourselves. We used the 4" tape, but after completing the job, we wished we had used the 2" tape. The 2" tape is all that was needed and it would have been easier to handle. Since the tear was on a edge, this took two people to manage the tape.

Thanks,
Don
