We've been wintering in the RGV in Texas for a couple of years and want to visit other areas. We are thinking of Arizona as our next choice.
We enjoy a nice park with activities. WIFI is a must. Entertainment at the resort would be a plus. We have a small dog so it must be pet friendly. Does anyone have suggestions for the Mesa or Apache Junction area? On RV park reviews Val Vista Village or Val Del Oro looked interesting. Also wondering about the Meridian in AJ. We are open to other areas. We haven't been real happy with the weather in RGV, but the people are wonderful! Our resort is nice also except the clubhouse is too small for a lot of activities. Thanks for any help.

We have stayed at Val Vista for a couple of weeks at a time for the last 5 years and have enjoyed it. It's clean, friendly and has lots of things to do if you are so inclined.

We thought about Meridian when we were in the area a couple of years ago and went in to see what it was like. The streets were narrow(old school), and the majority of units were permanent park models, spaced very close together. Decided it was not what we wanted and went to Canyon Vista, in Gold Canyon, a few miles further east on Rt. 60. It is still close to the major shopping areas, but far enough away to get away from the noise. Very nice, newer park with a mix of park models and class 'A's, and 5th. wheels. They do allow pets, but do have pet-restricted areas, for those who don't want to be around them.

Next winter will be our 4th at Canyon Vistas. It is now our winter home for 4 months. Great location with desert on two sizes. Lots of upgrades occuring right now for next winter. 6 new pickleball courts, new tennis courts, new wood shop, expanded baseball field and the list go on.

Everyone is very friendly and out of 600+ sites 200+ are park models. Everyone puts their pants on the same in the morning.

There is a new section for next winter called Superstition Views (high end motorhomes) that is going to be managed via Canyon Vistas office and activities will be shared. Hopefully they will do it one leg at a time also!!

We will be spending our third year at Mesa Spirit this winter. Has all of the things that you mentioned, easy access off of University to the area, Safeway located just across the street at the NW corner of the park (it is a larger park with 1800 sites, similar to Val Vista), active groups in the park, woodworking shop, lapidary shop, etc., dances every weekend, etc.

Ignore the RV Reviews that were put up by a couple of people who didn't like the city construction - as if the park could do anything about that.

We had friends who stayed at Val Vista and they liked it. We've also stayed at Canyon Vista, and while the parks out in Gold Canyon are very nice, for us it was just too far of a drive to get to all of the places we wanted to see. There are several nice places in Apache Junction, but most of them seemed a little smaller to us. But there are so many places in Mesa, just pick one for the season and then spend some time looking at others for next year.

We have stay at Cal-Am Resorts for several years. Great parks with lots of activities. They are large with some having over 1,700 sites.
We have stayed at Meridian RV Resort. Very nice park that only has RV's in it (no park models).
Would go back but their rates for less than a 3 month stay are very high.

Thank-you to everyone for your help. Canyon Vista looks very interesting. I have a few questions. Do you get entertainment in on a regular basis or do you go to other parks? Are there close by shopping and restaurants? Does the path through the center of the park have a bike path? Are there showers other than at the pool? My DH hates our MH shower as it is small for him. I can't find Gold Canyon on the map. How close is it to Mesa? Thanks again for your help! Forgot to ask about WIFI. Is it spotty or good?

The path is for walking, however people ride their bikes on it also. There is a free standing bathhouse in the front section of the park on 5th street. It is between 229 and 231.

There is a full size Bashas Grocery store across Highway 60 from the park and a Walgreens a mile East at Kings Ranch Road. There are a few Restaurants in Gold Canyon. There are events just about each weekend, Dance or Entertainer. The bigger name shows are in the Ballroom at Cal-Am's Montesa Ballroom which connects on the back side to Canyon Vistas. They open the gate for shows normally. Canyon Vistas addition is getting a new ballroom I think and shows may be there in the future. You can also go the shows at other Cal-Am parks in the area. We went to VDO to see Vicki Lawrance a couple years ago.

Walmart is a couple three exits to the west. Costco is another couple. Lots of golf courses in the area. Good RV supply store in Apache Junction.

Mesa is about 20 miles West. I have a USB 200mw external WiFi adapter and get good WiFi. There are WiFi towers spread around the park. Because it is a newer park (12 years old) the sites are larger than the older parks in Arizona. Most are 40' wide and 50' or so deep.

Gold Canyon is a few miles East of Apache Junction. You can click this link and then zoom out to get an reference of the location.

Val Vista is close to shopping with a drug store, supermarket, and McDonalds across the street. No bike path, but there is a group ride once a week. The only showers are at the pools I believe.
Entertainment is usually at one of the other Cal-Am parks and I believe they bus you there.
