Currently have the tow vehicle in my signature but I am thinking of going newer. I never tow my fiver as it sits on a permanent site. Should I upgrade to a newer used diesel or look at a gas engine this time. I sometimes tow 10000 pounds with my work so keep that in mind when responding. I have looked at the 6.4 Ford but the mileage claims scare me. My wife likes GM/Chev products. I have looked at the 6.6 and the 6.0. I love my Dodge but the ride is not so comfy. A friend has recommended the 6.7 Cummins. If you were in my shoes what would you do?

I would stay with the 2006 Cummins Dodge you already have. Can't get much better than that.

Greg, unless you have way over 200,000 miles, have a major problem with the truck, or just don't like the truck, I wouldn't even consider trading. You may already have a better truck than you can buy and I am a Ford guy.

If your looking for better MPG when NOT towing look at the F150 Ecoboost. With the HD option it'll easily handle a 10,000 lb. trailer (TT or 5th wheel) but I don't know how big your 5th wheel is. I would ASSUME you also want the capability of towing the 5h wheel if you need to. Super Cab model has a 2,650 Payload and 11,300 lb. tow rating.

Good luck / Skip

2007 Rockwood 8314SS 34' travel trailer

US Govt survey shows three out of four people make up 75% of the total population

Unless you have an uncontrollable 'new truck itch', keep what you have.
If you change, all you will be gaining is a new round of payments.

Well, I'm a GM guy, but if I were in your position, I'd keep what I've got. You Dodge is not that old. You've got a good truck. Unless you are having problems with it, or it's starting to suck your finances for repairs, I'd keep it. Then you've got vehicle to tow heavy stuff when you need it.

Rather than trade, keep it and just purchase a smaller light-weight truck: F150, 1500, or how about a small run-around truck: Chevy s-10? That way, you've got POWER with your current truck when you REALLY need to tow, and you'd have a smaller run-around truck that gets good mileage (and go with gas then).

Just a suggestion.

The Ford 6.4L isn't much worse than the Cummins 6.7L on fuel. Especially around town, the 6.7L is a fuel hog (compared to the old 5.9L Cummins).

Like others have said unless your current truck has issues, high mileage or you want a new new trukc, then i would keep the 5.9 cummins.

Aside from the rough ride are you happy with everything else on your current truck? Does it have a reasonable number of miles (kilometers) for it's age?

If so, why not just keep the truck and install a partial or full air suspension system? That will smooth out the ride and avoid the high cost of a new truck. Certainly this isn't a cheap option, but it sure beats paying $50K.
