We went camping at the Bruneau Sand Dunes park a couple weeks ago and had a great time. We paid for a site that had hook ups available of which I used the 30amp plug in. I didn't use the water because I was wondering how long we'd last on a full tank in the HTT. My question is, the family next to us had a Fleedwood pop up and was using both the water and the plug in, a few hours after they show'd he started leaking water. I wondered over to find what was leaking about the same time he thought to unhook his hose, after that it stopped leaking water, are you supposed to leave the water spicket turned on all the time or what?? My HTT came with the regulator attachment and I'm wondering if he should have one to avoid that problem?

I turn it on and leave it on. His leak could have been from many different things.

In June I was doing a plumbing job second day out on a 19 day trip. Thank goodness the gal at the Ace Hardware store knew more about RV plumbing than I do.

Turn it on and leave it on but make sure your own equipment is in good condition and does not leak. A mud hole on one site may ooze over and effect another site so it's only common cutesy to NOT mess up another persons site. Also remember YOUR site will be another persons site as soon as you leave.

As said ALWAYS use a pressure regulator. We have twice stayed at CG's where folks who did not use regulators had very extensive damage. Their fault of course.

We try to remember to turn off water if we will be leaving for awhile.

The PUP could have had a failed check valve, possibly made worse by the water pressure at the CG. (Happened to us once - NOT good.) Check valves exist in trailers too. Good advice about the water pressure regulator and turning the water off when you leave the CG (to shop, sightsee, whatever). You can leave the hose hooked up, but it's always a good idea to turn off the spigot when you'll be away from your site for a while.

Pressure regulator may or may not be required. But I have one. Last full service site we were on had such low pressure I had to remove the regulator to get decent water pressure in the camper.

I frequently turn the city water valve OFF when we're away for the day. Why return to a flooded camper? I've had no problems of this sort with either of our campers, but it only takes 5 seconds.

Not sure what the leak was in the incident you describe. Freeze damage and road vibration can loosen or break camper water plumbing. Not common, but you've witnessed it. Bad check valve in the onboard pump system can cause city water pressure to fill the fresh water tank and send water out the overflow.
