Went to the coach today to check something and the entry steps did not extend.
First checked the step switch, OK. Found the fuse, and it looks fine. Crawled underneath and jiggled some wires, nothing. It worked last week and the coach hasn't moved.

Any ideas?

It operates from the chassis battery, not the house battery. Does the chassis battery have a full charge?

Mine is wired straight from hot connections off of the battery. The wiring is really easy to chase down. I would start by making sure you have power at the steps. If you do then just chase it till it stops. Then, test that. Could be a bad switch, motor, or very likely to be a loose or corroded wire.

Many posts here say that bad ground connections often cause this problem. Mine has 2 ground connections. Suggest you remove ground wire connectors, wire brush both contact points, replace and try it. If it is fixed, spray on some battery protectant over the connectors to prevent corrosion.

Just went to the coach and of course now they are working. Must be the ghost of Newmars past.
On the weekend when I have more time I will do what you guys suggest and chase down the ground connections and clean them up.

Thanks

Kat that is a classic symptom of a bad ground, make sure and let us know what the final fix is.

Low battery will do it, next time check to see what your battery voltage is.

Bad ground connection @ frame, clean with wire brush as OP has mentioned. Good luck,

Batteries are fine, it's plugged in.

Doesn't mean you don't have a bad battery. Might want to have them checked. If you have ever let them drain all the way down, that can shorten their life considerably.
