Hello, we purchased a 2005 Alpenlite Augusta last weekend & for some reason we have not been able to get the Surround Sound to work. We put in a DVD last night & the player & TV work fine, but the sound only comes from the TV. It's the RCA speaker system & all wires are connected to the Insignia DVD player & appear to be correct. There is a "surround" button on the Insignia's remote but when you push it, nothing changes. It has the Winegard Distribution Switch system & a Sharp TV. I'm assuming all of these components are original. We received all of the manuals the previous owners had, but unfortunately there wasn't anything for the DVD player or TV. Is there a separate switch to activate the sound system? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance, Lyle

Unless there is a separate am-fm stereo receiver I doubt if their is any "surround" system using the rv speakers. If there was a receiver it might have been taken out at the time it was sold. A few TV's will have outputs that can power separate speakers most do not. I think you would have to get a new reciever and take the plugs from the tv and put those into the inputs and then plug that into the "surround" speakers.

Not sure if they all do, but my Alpenlite has a home stereo system with the surround sound reciever, Kenwood to be exact. What reciever does yours have? The reciever also has the tuner for the radio. Here's a link to the Facebook page that alot of us Alpie orphan owners are on and maybe someone there can help better then I can. I don't watch a lot of TV in surround sound. It would be good idea to pop in on the Alpenlite page in FB. My 05 Portofino has basically same system but when I watch TV I don't get surround sound.. only when watching a DVD or playing a CD. Since I just added two new Vizio LED LCD Tvs I have to do a full channel search for TV in bedroom before I can watch a DVD... which I think I will change to an HDMI port very soon. It is soooo much easier that way.

If you have all original components, they should play the way the did when it came from the factory... if you don't, I am under the suspicion the components were stuff that was back shelved for some time before these things were mounted in coaches. so, they are most likely antiquated, but still functional. Hell, they are barely digital!

The unit is an Insignia model IS-HTIB101071 Home Theatre System & using the RCA RTD155 speakers. I was playing a DVD w/ only sound coming from the TV. I was able to download the manual from Insignia so I'll make sure the connections are correct. I'll aslo check to see if when changing the function to the tuner/receiver if the audio from the radio or CD comes through the surround speakers mounted.

Thanks, Lyle

Come to think of it I don't ever remember watching regular TV with surround. Part of the problem may be the push button connection panel if yours has one. Mine does and confuses the hell outa me everytime I have to change it. If your are using the connection panel it only has co-ax and you would need to wire the sound thru separate.

Turn off the sound for the TV and then using the RCA remote turn up the surrond sound. The Tv will over power the surround sound and make it hard to determine if they're on or not. This is assuming the unit is working correctly.Enjoy your new to you Alpenlite..
