Mine came loose from the wind yanking on the arms on windy days. I just drilled all the way through to the inside of the wall and used some long bolts with large washers and nuts on the inside. Fortunately they are on the inside of cabinets so no one sees them.

My slide toppers were like that after the dealer installed them when the trailer was new. Turns out it was nothing in the wall up there for the screws to go into. Took it back to the dealer after about a month of having the trailer and they used pop rivits where the screws were and all was well.

Don't even get me started on quality and pride in workmanship these rv manufactures brag about.

Had same problem om a Fleetwood Quantum. Found screws loose, and called dealer 100 miles away. Had to pull to dealer and they got plans from Fleetwood. In design there is a board mounted behind siding that hold awning. Whoever mounted awning missed block by 1ft. Dealer remounted and put reflector to cover holes by awning. Awning was well but problems just kept on happening. After 4 years we gave up and traded for Cameo. Quality is much better.

After I fix one thing, I find something that is broken

I agree its disturbing RV manufacturers don't use materials that would withstand being outside... for example: a pop rivit rusted through and one of the step rungs is coming loose so a friend drilled a hole through the rivit so I could insert a bolt/nut HOWEVER I wouldn't have to do this if they would use stainless steel, granted its more $$$ but more often enough RVs are outside so you would build them for outside use not so that they'll rust on year 8

I had the same thing happen as the OP, and used large washers & bolts going thru the wall. It was inside a closet where it came thru the RV. The orig owner ordered it with a larger awning than stock, and so the board it was supposed to be bolted to wasn't inside the wall.
