Please see most recent post advising United RV has corrected the problem and replaced the windows.
We purchased a 2011 Heartland NorthCountry lakeside travel trailer from United RV and absolutely love the trailer. We noticed, however, that when it rained, one of our windows was leaking. We also discovered that the water valve in our toilet would not shut off. Neither of these items is a big deal so we took our trailer back to United RV to have these two minor repairs done. Boy oh boy did we mess up. United RV checked with Heartland about the leaking window and was told to make the weep holes on the window larger so the water would drain properly. Heartland also advised them to, as a courtesy check to make sure the weep holes on the remaining windows were OK. The service technician at United RV took a hammer and screw driver and played connect the dots by slicing the window frame from weep hole to weep hole on all 8 windows, bending up the aluminum and pounding the window frame making all 8 windows unusable. After discussing with the service manager who insisted that he could "repair" the aluminum, my husband advised that, after working with aluminum for over 30 years - you can't just "bend it back". Aluminum does not work that way. We wanted all 8 windows replaced. As this is not warranty work since the damage was caused by United RV's service technician, United RV flat refused to replace the windows. Then - after my husband called the representative at Heartland and called the actual manufacturer, United RV called us and advised they were going to go ahead and replace the windows and that, there was one window on backorder and as soon as it arrived and they got it installed, they would call us to come pick up our trailer. Well, yesterday we got the call and went to United RV. They did NOT replace the windows. They did replace the 2 smallest/cheapest windows (kitchen and bathroom) but just hammered the aluminum down on the remaining 6 windows and dabbed touch-up paint on the hammered dents they caused. When asked about this the response from the service manager was - do they work? Can you open and close them? So they look bad - they work so who cares. We are done here. We went ahead and brought the trailer home. When my husband went out to open the windows to let the trailer air out he discovered that one of the window shades was reinstalled backwards. After taking off the valance and the shade and turning it around - he discovered WHY the shade was installed backwards. Apparently someone had stepped on the shade damaging the cross slats and tearing the cloth covering and, rather than just replace one little window shade, installed it backwards I guess in the hopes that we would notice??? Further we discovered that, during the 3 months the trailer was at United RV, the service technician(s) had been peeing in our toilet but did not bother to flush it - just closed the lid. When we got home, since the toilet was full of 3 months of being peed in, now there is urine all over the bathroom floor and it ran out into the hall. Our 9 year old son had a bone marrow transplant and his immune system, while being much stronger now than when released from the hospital, is still compromised. This means that now, in addition to everything else, we must have the trailer sanitized before he can even get in it due to the biohazard of urine all over the flooring. Bottom line - do NOT under any circumstances take your travel trailer to United RV. Their website brags about the certified professional technicians they have - BS!! We took in a 6 month old trailer which we had gotten to use one time and got back a trailer with 6 trashed windows, a damaged window shade and urine all over the floor. Is trashing a brand new trailer and leaving urine in the toilet normal for RV repair places or were we just lucky in taking ours to United RV?

Wow! I am sorry to hear about your experience. It sounds to me like you need to get a lawyer involved. Many of the improvements in quality and safety that are found in the auto industry today are a result of law suites. While I am averse to them, I am thinking that we as a group need to pull that particular trigger a little more if we are going to see any improvement in quality and respect. Please keep us posted on how you make out.

I am really surprised by your post. I live in Fort Worth and have used United RV for years now for all our service on our trailer. In fact for years we had an issue with the trailer brakes that no one could solve, United did solve it. We take our TT into them once a year for a complete checkup. They've always done an excellent job for us. I am so sorry you had problems with United RV in Fort Worth.

Didn't you say that heartland agreed to replace all of the damaged windows? Where are they? Did they not ship them to the dealer? I don't understand why they replaced just the two small windows?????

Avoid leaving an RV for long periods. If you have to leave one, check on it often.

Ditto on that. ......I would call Heartland and request another of their dealers to go to. If they said they would replace the windows then I think they will honor that and I doubt they will care which one of their dealers you go thru since it sounds like Heartland was gonna foot the bill. Ultimately Heartland is responsible since you took it to one of their dealer representatives for warranty work. The dealer was acting as an agent for Heartland. If not then lawyer up and take lots of pictures. I would still take lots of pics and send copies to Heartland with a time line written out on what was done and what was said when and where. When you do that, for some reason it carries a lot of weight with major corporations.

Whoa Nelly!!! that would NOT have settled with me. I would have hit the roof. There would have been HELL to pay for that comment. Thats what they call customer service? I would have been camping on their front door until it was fixed to my satisfaction, especially since the manufacturer told them thats what had to be done.

We purchased our 5th wheel from United and have never had any major service issues from them. They even convened Forest River that they DID need to replace the 40' wall on our unit because of a defect after it was out of warranty. I think you can have bad service from any place. This doesn't sound like the United RV I have used in the passed... sorry you had so much trouble.

This is an update on my original posting of 06/08/11 regarding United RV. Since that posting, United RV has made the problem right. They ordered new windows (the 6 that were still damaged) and replaced them with brand new windows. Further, they replaced the damaged kitchen blind and cleaned up the interior of the trailer.
My husband picked up the trailer from United RV on Tuesday (7/12/11)and, after thoroughly checking everything, is satisfied with the end result.
When replacement of the windows took longer than originally anticipated, and, since we no longer live in Texas, United RV offered to pay for a hotel for my husband which was a very nice gesture.
Bottom line - the damaged windows have been replaced with new windows, the blind was replaced and the trailer cleaned. We are satisfied with the end result. United RV did correct the issue and make it right.
