Well, assuming you are coming from California going west on I-80 the only grade of any concern is coming out of Salt Lake City. You come up out of Salt Lake City and have a long. long climb. I have made that grade several times with my rig and, depending on your rig, it is slow going and on a hot day it tends to get the engine temps up. Once you get up to top of that grade it is generally down hill the rest of the way to Nebraska.

I agree but I think you meant from California going EAST on 80 out of Salt lake city, not WEST. Yes that grade is long and steep but doable. As I recall 80 through Wyoming is OK. As a bonus, fuel in Wyoming is usually the lowest price on your whole trip.

Guess I can elaborate a bit. From bottom of Parley's out of SLC is 10 miles to summit, roughly 2800' up, some 6% grade, to about 7200' elevation...then back down to 5500' where 80 and 84 intersect. Then a very casual climb to Evanston, which is about 6800'. Elevation varies between this and 6200' to Rawlins, then starts to climb to the 7000' and over level, eventually topping out between Laramie and Cheyenne at 8700' or so at the Lincoln Mem Rest stop. Once through Cheyenne, it's all over. The highway usually in good shape....lots of big rig traffic typically. Prevailing winds generally at your back....a good thing. When sideways, not so good. Have fun.
