Anyone install a 2nd AC in your 30amp TT?
I was thinking of installing the AC in the front bedroom. Run the wires down into a closet and then into a storage compartment.
Install a receptacle, then use an extension cord to the campground 20 AMP pedestal. Anyone do this? This is for a friends TT.
Any advise is appreciated.

Hi,

If you have a 50' long extension cord, #12 wire, why not install that perminately in the trailer? You can run the wiring (with some luck and looking around to find a chase) from the electrical / sewer compartment to the closet in the front, and then into the A/C unit. When you want to run it, just plug in the new 50' cord to the campground receptical. So you will have two cords to plug in, and probably not trip the 30 amp receptical circuit breaker, if the site has more than 30 amp of power going to it.

If at a site with only a 30 amp receptical, then plug the cord into one of the trailer's basement recepticals.

Fred.

I will agree with the basics of having the other outlet at the shore power connection at the CG, but not to trying to run two A/C units of the 30A that is in the TT. That might work, IF nothing else is being used, but even then, you're at the limit, and may be asking for trouble.

Now, that said, if you wanted, you could run one A/C or the other with out a problem, but not both.

Just my two cents....

Should work no problem - Hard wire the extra a/c unit to 12ga cord and route it out thru your 30A cable outlet - then plug them both in at CG

If you plug it into any trailer outlet and run both A/C units you will keep popping breakers..

If I'm reading his post correctly, the additional A/C would not be wired in to the trailers wiring whatsoever. His plan should work fine, provided that the second A/C electrical is powered directly from the CG supply, as it would have it's own 20A circuit breaker. That being said, adding any additional load to the added-on A/C circuit is highly inadvisable, as most RV A/C units draw around 15RLA, which is 75% continuous rating of a 20A circuit. The 20A circuit can handle the few second in-rush current of probably around 30-35A, if ONLY the A/C is trying to start. Any other load on the same circuit may trip the breaker, or damage the compressor windings.

i ran a power strip w/breaker on a seperate line that i plug into the pedistal. us it mostly for a heater so when other heavy draw items are used it doesn't pop the breaker-ie in fall with heater going and DW uses the micro and the tv is on etc.
have the strip mounted in the bed base w/velcro and wire routed under bed(outside storage) and out an access door right by where the pedistal usually is.
nice part is it's semi removable-not the easiest but can be done.. for the OP's use i think i'd wire it more perm as i think the air unit will be perm-but yea-should work no prob.
