We have a 2005 Cougar fifth wheel that has the remote control heat and air. We've been lately having a problem with the furnace and air coming on by itself, even when turned off. Has anyone else had this problem? HELP!!!! Jan and Duane

Got to be the thermostat. (a short or just defective).
Easy to replace with a digital one.

We've even taken the batteries out of the remote and it has still come on. Really strange. I think this was the only year that Cougar made the remote control furnace and air. We hate it. Would much rather have a regular wall thermostat but probably costly to change out. Any other ideas?

Does your Heater/AC have an emergency push button so that in the case of low batteries you can activate either/or?

I had the same problem but my furnace was coming on even when the A/C setting was selected. It turned out that there was a screw or nail through one of the wires that was causing an intermittent short. The dealer had to re-wire the A/C and Furnace to get the issue to go away.

Make sure you have the remote near or pointed at the unit. You can indeed turn the remote off and even remove the batteries, but unless the sensor on the unit can 'see' the change, it will not know anything has changed. We have two units with remotes and experienced the same thing when we were getting used to their operation. So, turn the remote on, point it at the unit and then turn it off or change the function.

A furnace/AC with only a remote and no wall stat is seriously bad idea. Someone really over thought that one.

I had the same problem on my small TT.New thermostat cured it.
The only thing I did wrong was buy the thermostat at a RV place for twice the money

By Remote are you talking about Carrier V's with Infra Red Remotes?
Someone could be plying with you, Cover the sensor (The round thing to the outside of the COOL and HEAT (Or Furnace) buttons with a piece of cardboard (Not corrorgated but card board, like a business card) and some tape, black duct tape is good here but .. Well, not the best (Leaves residue) or with a square of aluminum foil (Painters tape over that) (painters tape is best) this rules out false I/R signals.
